For a "homemade" sandwich, mine is a heavy buttered, 3 slices of American cheese with crisp bacon, pan fried to golden brown 'Grilled Cheese'. If it's cold outside, add a bowl of tomato soup. Close second in summer is sliced tomatoes, white bread, heavy mayo, salt and pepper with sweet iced tea.
I grew up in the mountains of Western North Carolina, didn't know anyone who wouldn't eat these. Been enjoying them over 60 years.
What are yours?

I've got a few.

Reubens are good. I used to live on liverwurst on rye bread with spicy brown mustard. Meatloaf sandwiches, also with mustard. Firehouse Subs had a Jamaican jerk turkey sandwich that was really good. Jersey Mike's Big Kahuna cheese steak (with jalapenos) was big on my list.

Since I've gone plant-based I've been eating mostly mock tuna salad sandwiches (just like tuna salad, but made with mashed up chickpeas instead of tuna). Peanut butter, banana, and agave syrup (instead of honey...gotta cut back on sugar) sandwiches are a nice treat. Haven't made it in a while, but I used to make a sandwich with sauteed mushrooms, hummus, cucumber, and tomato.

I call them "Horse Samwitchs" (that is the proper misspelling!) The meat isn't a horse, but the meats and cheeses are stacked so high it will choke a horse! Ham, roast or corned beef, and thick sliced left over turkey. On a grilled Kaiser roll with brown mustard, mayo, lettuce, onion (prefer red onion!) and sliced hard boiled egg. When available sautéed mushrooms and of course BACON! If the roll isn't available toasted Russian rye is good.

Nowadays I have to watch my carbohydrate intake! So, the same quantity and variety of meats and cheeses on a large garden salad. That is the meal for both of us!

I can't narrow it down to one. I have two co-equal favorites. Here goes:

Homemade white bread, home grown maters, Hellman's (only acceptable), salt and pepper.

Fresh baked Jewish rye bread, buttered one side, medium rare roast beef piled about an inch high, two slices of imported Swiss cheese, salt and a lot of pepper.

I'm a simple man with simple tastes. God I'm hungry for lunch already!

Favorite sandwiches. Any thing my wife makes for me.:D

At a restaurant, I'm very partial to a well made Corned beef Rubin.

There is a very decent restaurant about 25 miles from my house that we hit often when we go shopping in that area. They use the best of products, make it large, yes its a bit more than other places charge but well worth it.

Rubin is number one position for me but I'm impressed by a well made Philly steak sandwich also!

How about the world famous Elvis Presley sandwich? Bananas and peanut butter, fried. Always a debate about using white bread or wheat bread, but I prefer whole wheat. I think Elvis used white bread. Spread peanut butter (I prefer chunky) on one slice, cover it with either slices of banana or mashed banana (I prefer sliced). Butter the bread on both sides and fry it on a griddle, like you would make a toasted cheese sandwich. Unbeatable. Elvis was truly the King. Some say Elvis also added fried bacon, but I think that is a vicious falsehood.

I love a good Philly cheese steak sandwich with grilled onions, grilled mushrooms and grilled green and red bell peppers on crunchy French or Italian bread . 2nd fave is made by my favorite local pizza place... Chicken pesto panini with store made breaded chicken tenders, Mancini roasted peppers, melted provolone, store made pesto, and roasted in the pizza oven to a crispy heavenly delicious treat. They used to put lettuce and tomato on it but I have them exclude those ingredients because I don't like hot lettuce and tomato. But an I hungry now... Which to get today?
