Hands down for me is the Danner Explorer.

Not cheap but worth every penny. Real sturdy, comfortable and resoleable. I've had two ankle surgeries, and a demanding job... having a great pair of boots is a necessity for me. This model is also handmade in the USA.

My last two pairs were caterpillars. My current pair need replacing and they discontinued the model I buy.
I loved those boots.
Now I have to buy a new pair.
Backyard work, outdoor photography and canoe trips in the swamp will be done in boots, no soft soles.
Not looking forward to shoe shopping.

I've always been fond of Merrell MOABs. They are more of a hiking boot, I guess, but I work in them, too. Recently, though, it seems that their quality has gone downhill. My newest pair is comfortable, but they started losing stitching almost as soon as I put them on. That never happened before with any of the Merrells I've owned. Both boots are missing eyelets after only a couple of months wear - they have the ribbon type eyelets except for the top speed lacers. I'm still wearing them, though. Gotta get my money's worth out of them, you know.

I just ordered a pair of Bates composition toe boots that were dirt cheap on woot.com a few days ago. Not sure how they'll work out, but they look good in the pictures. They should arrive in a day or two.

I've been wearing Keen steel toe work shoes for a year now and not only have they held up better than i expected they are comfortable. I would prefer a six or eight inch boot but all the ones made by Keen that i have looked at are waterproof. I would rather have a good hot weather boot that is breathable.

I wear boots. Only boots on my feet. I do not own a pair of dress shoes or athletic shoes.
Closest I come to tennis shoes is a pair of Merrel Moabs. I really like them but rarely wear them
Danners have been cradling my feet for 30+ years. Currrently I own 2 pair of Elk Hunters and a pair of Lights. The lights are my work boots when I am doing my day to day running around and working on my equipment. They are my go to boot around the ranch.
The Elk Hunters are exactly that. Hunting boots. I like the higher top for ankle support and the more flexible sole aids in staying in touch with the contours of the hills.
Recraftable and tough as nails. Mostly they are super comfortable and the only brand that fits my feet properly.

I agree,
I had two pairs of Merrill’s but when I went for a third pair they fit like wood blocks with plywood insoles.

If I have to wear steel toes, I wear the Corcoran field boot. After they're broken in, they're comfortable.

For regular boots/shoes, I wear the Nike Manoa. It's like cross between a high top basketball shoe and a lugged boot. They're really comfortable.

I also like Palladium boots. They're like Converse canvas boot but with a lugged sole. They're great for the summer!

Like Tom, Georgia 8" Loggers when I did wear boots. Haven't had to wear them since the early 1990s when all my work footwear became deck shoes.

I wear Zamberlan GTX boots made in Italy good support and comfort. I wore others in the past different manufacture they were good , but when they sent them someplace else to be made they just lost the quality, and were cheaply made not long lasting at all.

Have not bought a pair for years, but for me it was always Red Wings. Last time I bought a pair they were still made in Red Wing, although some of their production had gone off shore. They have a lot of extra wide sizes and always fit me well.
These days, it’s Keens.

If I go high and hard I wear my Danner Light Mountains.
And yes, lately Merrell has been going down fast.
The have become Margarita drinking shoes.
Shoes that look tough but are best suited for standing in somebody’s back yard socializing.
Best low quarter light hiking shoes that I know about right now?
OBOZ. Got mine at REI.
