It's very possibly an FBI 1076. There are great number of TFK FBI 1076s. Please let me know the results when you receive the letter. Thanks, D
just call 1-800-331-0852 and they will tell you for free,if it is an FBI gun then send in some money to make it official.....![]()
First post, new member.
I stumbled across this thread while doing a little research on my 1076 and based on a scan of the last 29 pages I think I may have an oddity. My gun has the serial number prefix VZC and the stamping is lighter and in a slightly different script than my other 10mm S&W guns. It doesn't have a magazine disconnect, nor the recall punch marks or any of the other marks people have mentioned in this thread.
Every other gun I've seen mentioned in this thread starts with 'T', so either my gun is a very late production model or an oddball.
Any info appreciated.
Pics are always good but the likely answer is that it is simply a very late commerical model of the 1076. We haven't seen any FBI 1076's outside the T prefix range. Many commerical 1076's were used by other state law enforcement agencies and yours may have a history like that but it may simply have been a private party purchase as well.![]()
I have a 1076 I picked up last week at a gun store and I think it may be a FBI gun. It has the following features: palm swell grips, checkered front strap, black trigger, novak night sights, the letter u on the trigger guard, magazine warning on right side of slide and a serial number prefix that is TVK xxxx. Also the original box has a new label over the original label indicating "used" and various other numbers. Does all this sound correct? Would pictures help?

There is record of two TVK FBI 1076s. One also features a black trigger which is not a common feature. The ship dates were 6/91 and 10/91. So it is possible.
Just got confirmation from Smith&Wesson that my gun is indeed a FBI gun. The gun was shipped to the FBI in 91.
Congrats on a acquiring a great gun with a cool history. You'll have to post some pics of the gun and box, naturally. I need to find out that number that people call to get that info so quick. It may come in handy.
TFP335X is right in the FBI issued SN range. With the features you listed there is a good chance it is on. Of course the only way to know for sure is to get a letter, but it looks like the letter would be worth the money for your particular pistol.
