FBI 1076

1076 Academy

I would appreciate you checking my 1076 Serial Number. I am certain it is an FBI Gun.
TFK 3773.

I will copy this message to the string also!

I purchased from CDNN must have been 1993 or 94 through an FFL acquaintance.

I appreciate the info. The string on this model is outstanding. The 1076 was my first 10mm. I now own a bunch of 10mm. But it is my favorite. Never has jammed no matter what I shoot. Including some smoking hot reloads.

The rest of the gang includes,
Colt Delta Gold Cup SS, Colt Match 10, Colt Delta Elite First edition Stainless,
#1 1076, #2 1006s #2 1066s (1 is NIB)
S&W 610 No dash 5 inch, Ruger Black Hawk Buckeye 10mm 38/40, Glock 20,
EAA Witness Target (Bomar Adjustable Sights and compensated, NIB)

And to the FBI agent working on the Res and carrying the HK MP5/10... I hate you so much! This was one weapon I wanted to legally put together from parts and a registered HK sear. Just too prohibitively expensive.

Early on I was able to get a lot of free 10mm brass going to the range in Albuquerque after the FBI would shoot. What a country.

Thanks to all for the info. This thread is phenomenal!:D

TFK3773 is not on my list. But my list is not comprehensive. It is still very possible that that it is an FBI 1076. Why are you certain that it is an FBI 1076? Have you requested a Jinks letter?

No, I have not requested the letter yet. The gun has the checkering as described. No peen marks under the decocker though. Product Codes 179000, Special Order Codes 8258.
Does have the Warning. The box label has a 2nd label over the original.

I purchased the gun through either CDNN or KY imports. They both sold a lot of LE used guns. My gun has night-sights, that are now dead.

I will request the letter from Mr. Jinks to be sure. Thanks for checking you info. I will keep you posted.

Mike

I don't see a problem in posting the serial number. However, feel free to send me a personal message. D

DMC, I took the liberty of PMing you another serial number that I hope you won't mind checking your list for me. I hope it's on your list just to give my gun some history, it is a great shooter and I have never had a FTF or FTE with many reloads through it. I also have a 1006 and have never had any problems with it either.
Thanks

Hi guys,

I've got a 1076 that I've owned since the summer of '94. The SN is TFP 335X, it's got a checkered front strap, "U" on the bottom of the triggerguard, the caution warning on the slide, Novak tritium sights and no mag safety. There are no dimples under the decocking lever. I have 3 mags and don't think I ever had a box for it.

My LEO friend bought it from an LEO dealer in Miami and didn't like it (his agency wouldn't supply ammo for it), so, being a 10mm fan (I've got a 17XX# stainless Delta Elite as well), I bought it from him.

What are the chances of it being a former FBI weapon? All this time, I thought it had to be, as I was unaware of any other agencies using it (after reading this thread, I know I was mistaken), and they weren't available for sale new to civilians (I really wanted one when they came out!)

I'm more of a 1911 kind of guy, and have gravitated back to .45ACP, so it hasn't been fired in over 15 years, and I was thinking of selling it. What's the price premium if it is an FBI gun?

Thanks!

TFP335X is right in the FBI issued SN range. With the features you listed there is a good chance it is on. Of course the only way to know for sure is to get a letter, but it looks like the letter would be worth the money for your particular pistol.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I'm gonna gamble the $50 and get the letter.

what exactly happened with the 1076 that caused that noted reliability problem everyone always brings up with the 1076?

It does show indications of being an FBI 1076 but I had one very similar that was not. You can see my example in the first few posts I made in this thread to see the similarities. The only way to know for sure is a factory letter. It's in great shape either way. :) Welcome to the forum.

Thank you, glad to be here.it has night sights as well, super dim though

I think just about all of them out there don't have much glow left in the night sights. I have heard you can send them in to Novak or some place like that and get them relit but it isn't super cheap.

Have you shot it yet? They're fantastic to shoot and made me a straight shooter in one outing.

The "U" is likely a test firing mark stamped on the gun at the factory. Can't recall if this is significant or not. Where is it exactly? Can't see it in the photos. There are a number of FBI 1076's that have what looks like an upside down "1" stamped on the side of the trigger guard.

Send me a PM with your e-mail and I'll send you a copy of the letter request form that you'll send on to Mr. Roy Jinks at the S&W HQ.

Range was closed by the time I got there,Monday for sure.now to figure out who to mail a letter to ,to see if this piece is legit!!!

By the way it has a "U" stamped under the trigger guard, any significance?

U is for used. Stamped on the guns when returned to S&W before being re-sold. My FBI 1076 has the stamp under the trigger guard as well. But it is not unique to the FBI versions and can be on any police return that was re-sold.

Actually Trijicon will replace the lamps, just have to send the slide, takes 7-10 days.

well I just called this number to S&W and found out my 1076 was a Jan 1991 produced 1076 that originally went to the Virginia State Police, not the FBI, but good info all the same.
Number was 1-800-331-0852 ,I told the operator my Serial # and she gave me the info, saved $50 at least

Hey, you still got a great piece and easily my favorite semi-auto to shoot. I didn't realize you could call S&W and get that detailed info. Good to know.

Dzl, can you post a picture of the "U" under the trigger guard. Not sure there's a picture of one already in the thread and I am too lazy to search the 29 pages to look.

Some pics of my 1076's and 15 round mag

Thought the 1076's needed some time out of the safe so what better excuse then to shoot some pics. I picked up the magazine from a forum member awhile ago. It wasn't cheap but since it was the only time I had ever seen one for sale then I had to work out a deal with the seller. I sheepessly admit that I've paid less for some shooter grade guns. I have loaded it up once and shot the 15 rounds through it, it was fun. :)

These are both FBI guns. The one with the checkered front strap and trigger guard was agent carried and the one with the grooved front strap and checkered trigger guard was in the original 250 shipment that went to the Academy for testing.

Thank you sir.

$54 is reasonable. I have some guns that might need to have that done. Thanks for letting us know.

I can play now, just picked up a very nice, very reasonably priced 1076 this afternoon. Serial is TFK378X, checkered front strap and hand guard, "Caution-Capable of firing with Magazine Removed" on slide.

will post pictures shortly. possible FBI 1076? I will be requesting a letter when extra funds allow.
