Links to, or pictures of this M10? Never heard of that critter. Thanks!~
I'm pretty sure that someone more capable than I am can find a pic on this board. I think I've seen them here.
They were also bought by Michigan state police and by RCMP. Looks like a three-inch M-10HB or M-13, but a half inch shorter. They evidently decided in favor of the full three-inch bbl. soon after. It gave a little more velocity, but maybe a longer extractor rod stroke. Better balance, too, I think. But the next gun was in .357, so getting a Magnum ammo option was probably a major issue, too.
I hope that someone posts a photo. I can't. I've seen them only in photos, but in several of those, and other references document the use, and the users. I presume that you have the same books that I do, so you can check those, yourself. I'm pretty sure that the highest odds of seeing one are in Nahas & Supica.
You are surely aware that S&W also made sq. butt M-10's with both heavy and with semi-tapering three-inch barrels for forces in Turkey, Australia, and (I think?) France? Maybe elsewhere. These were also never catalogued. Many orders for LE are not for std. models. Usually, the US public never sees these guns, but one or two Aussie forces have sold off their guns in recent years, replacing them with either Glock .40's or S&W equivalents. (Both, depending on the force.)
Some Ruger SP-101's and three-inch S&W M-36-1's were also used in Australia. One seen here would be a collector's prize, if confirmed. I presume that both had state crests. I know the NSW guns did. Both Victoria and Queensland, among others there, used these revolvers.
