FBI still using 10mm?

To the best of my knowledge the ONLY 10mm being fielded by the FBI is the MP5-10mm, and I believe it is being phased out.

Are you able to say what the new sidearm will be, if oldman45's neighbor is correct that one is being adopted? Has any announcement been made?

The MP5/10mm is still alive and well in the FBI. This is my issue one:

The issued ammo is a 190 grain JHP. I'll take a picture of a box and post it.

I just looked at a box of the latest issued 10mm ammo - its Federal Classic silver box 190 grain JHP with a code of XM1003A.

The practice ammo has been 180 grain truncated cone FMJ for as long as I remember (19 years now). We must have bought a gazillion rounds of the stuff back in the 1076 days.

You guys weren't the only ones who bought that 180 grain stuff. I had a retired livestock inspector in Montana give a few thousand rounds of the stuff that was taking up room in his shed. He carried a 1076 on the job. He said thay just kept shipping him ammo every quarter.

It was some dirty shooting ammo, but who knows how many Montana winters and summers it had been through in that shed.

I just wish I had kept more of the brass, but I gave most of it away. That was before I started reloading.

Great link, cool stuff there. I wonder if this ammo was a special order for the FBI 20 years ago or much more recent. Either way very interesting and thanks for the insights.

Do you know the mv of the issued loads?

Its supposed to do 1050 out of a five inch barrel. Its probably kicking along pretty good out of the longer barrel of the MP5.
