My rifle loves the Federal 550 from Walmart. So far I've shot through 5 boxes (2750 rounds) and had only 2 failure to feeds.

Works well in all my 22's, to include a model 41

Haven't tried the bulk box but the Lightings have been stove piping in my 15-22 pistol. They work great in my rifle, Blazers work just fine.

I shoot the Federal stuff with my Savage Model 64 and every now and then I get a stove pipe or a light strike.
I'm not convinced that it's not mostly the rifle, because when it's dirty the problem is worse. I've had similar problems with any ammo I've tried.
The Federal stuff groups tighter than anything else I've tried, and pretty much never fails to feed.

It's all I've used in my 15-22. Maybe three or four per thousand that failed on the first strike but were OK the second time through. A handful of other anomalies, but not the ammo's fault, I think. No stovepipes.
Edit: Oops, meant this to be general post to this thread; not a reply to you, Hillbilly77. My bad.

My gsg 1911, my MP-15-22, and my marlin model 60 love the federal 550 packs. i get a few failures with the gsg but that is expected.

However, the gsg and the beretta 22 conversion do not like the M22 winchester stuff from Dicks.

thank you guys for the fast replies. i have bad stovepiping problems with the federals. about every 6 to 10 rounds i will have a stovepipe. the federals are the only ammo i have shot through it and the weapon is cleaned very well with little oil, mostly dry lube. i dont what the problem is. what do you guys think?

Between me and my son we've shot probably 2000 rounds of federal bulk out of our 15-22. No problems at all. In fact no matter what ammo we use we don't have problems. I shoot it out my of Ruger SR22 with no issues and it's particularly accurate out of my Marlin XS22 Bolt Action.

Sounds like a gun problem to me...

I have shot about 3000 federals thru my 15-22... no issues at all..

Tying some CCI Blazers and no isues there either

Must be yer gun buddy

I have been through about 8 boxes of the Fed. bulk, and about 1200 mini-mags, and have only had 3 rounds that did not fire on the first strike, but fired the second time. If 6 of 10 are not ejecting correctly, I would start with your ejector pin and make sure it is not bent, etc ... it is easy to do. I have to be careful when I clean as I have snagged it with my boresnake more than once. I hope you get it worked out. :)

I would call S&W pronto if I were you. I'm sure they'll tell you to send it in if they can't solve the problem for you over the phone.

The gun could be Overlubed. Causing the extractor to not extract the spent casing all the way. THen the ejector may be too lubed and slipping. Just a thought

im sorry its the m&p 15-22.

to everyone else. what do you think the problem is guys

thanks
chris

Well, the easy & cheap thing would be to try some other ammo for your rifle.
You can get all sorts of 50 round boxes for a couple bucks. From the sounds of it, 50 rounds should be enough to determine if the problem persists, or if new ammo cures it.
I wouldn't condemn anything on the rifle before I tried some different ammo.
What one gun shoots well will give another gun sh-t fits.
Best part about trying new ammo? Gives you an excuse to shoot some more.

Good luck. Let us know.

Mine doesn't like the stuff. Out of 50 rounds I tried, 30 were failure to ejects. Hand cycling them, they barely clear the ejection port. I did the same test with CCI LRN and mini mags. The rifle spit 'em half way across the room.

Couple thousand through my rifle (1,300 in one session a few weeks back)... no failures or issues to report here.

Good luck with yours!
