If I read this correctly, a recent news article states Senator Boxer (D-Calif) is looking to introduce a bill in Congress that would federalize the California law requiring anyone who carries a concealed weapon to obtain a permit which states the reason they want to possess the firearm. It appears this would be a Federal Law and supercede all state laws. States that don't comply would face loss of federal funds for law enforcement purposes. I'm sure the NRA will be watching this closely but so should we. Living in Vermont I've always been comforted by the State Constitution that gives citizens of this state the right to carry firearms. When I see the Feds starting to talk like this (new proposal) it gets my attention. If anyone out there has any more details please keep us posted.

The way I see it the people on the left want to control everything we do ( sounds like a novel called "1984" ) and if we are not voting that is what will happen in the future. We are getting a little taste of it now. Thank you to you both for your service!

So ... I'm guessing that in Boxer's view, "Because the constitution says I have the right" isn't enough of a reason to be issued a permit. Never mind the fact that I don't feel we should need permits in the first place.

This has nothing to do with back door schemes. If a bill like this is passed only the likes of Pelosi & Daily along with their body guards will have the ability to protect themselves. At least legally.

Don't forget celebrities and their bodyguards. They would have guns too. Just not those of us who actually may need them.

That "show cause" scheme is ripe for de facto banning. I have heard of people who had been raped, robbed, or shot not being able to show cause sufficient to suit the permitting authority.

What do you have to do, have been previously murdered? This is bad potential legislation from the queen of the stuff. I don't think the House would pass it, but there are some crap-talking Republicans in there now as well.

this is really just nonsense to gather up a storm.

like so many bills this one also has no chance of becoming law. my opinion of course.

but here in texas, and other states with regards to the healthcare bill, we are seeing the states reject the overreaching arm of the fed. this is very encouraging. I think of governor perry's rejection of part of the stimulus bill that would have impacted education in this state. pretty much he rejected funds that would not even cover 2% of the state education budget. had he accepted, federal demands on education would have been huge and way over the measly 2% budget gain. so principle aside, it's a question of risk/reward and it's good to know that in many instances the states are still in control.

I guess Babs slept through the reading of the Constitution. I believe the action proposed in this bill is directly prohibited by the 10th Amendment.

Tenth Amendment – Powers of States and people
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

If we can get a couple Congressmen to slip in a Shall Issue clause the bill could be interesting.

Are you all forgetting that B. Boxer is one of the most ANTI - GUN scum sucking critters in Washington, District of Crime?

How anyone can look at this and see any good from it boggles my mind. While I would welcome nationwide concealed carry, it is a state issue and not a federal one.

"A government big enough to give you everything you want is strong enough to take it away."

And that will stop them how??????????They don't believe in it,
Exactly. They don't believe in it any more than a thug believes in the law.

Seems there's a lot of folks in DC that think that the constitution was written up as a list of suggestions.
