Hi Scott,

Happy to help. I got my SD9 last weekend. I assume you've held one, but if not, the size is one of the aspects of the gun I like best. It's technically a full-size, but is actually more like a compact. The size is identical to the Glock 19, and even slightly slimmer - so this could definitely be carried.

I've put about 350 rounds through it at the range, and been very impressed. I've not had one problem at all with FTF or FTE. Loading, reloading, and firing are all smooth as ice. For a gun its size, the recoil is non-existent. Accuracy is very serviceable. It's not a competition gun by any means, but it will do the job. I'm not one to practice target shooting religiously, and on my first time shooting the gun, I was shooting about 2 inch spreads at 25 feet. And a better shooter would have done better. The trigger pull is not short or light, but it's definitely not too heavy or long. After all, for a defense gun with no safeties you don't want it too short.

Hope this helps!

Hmmm... My mags didn't rattle at all. I always smack the back against my hand to make sure they are all snug to the back. Other than that, I don't know what would cause that... does it happen with both mags?

yes both mags rattle....called S&W told them what was going on (rattling) so he said that it does not sound right...he is sending me 2 new mags out..and to send the other 2 back ..they are paying for the return postage as well!!.. wounder if they know about "bad mags"....now my buddy was a SD9 and the mags DO NOT RATTLE...so i went back to the LGS that i got it from and tied a different 40 mag....guess what NO rattle ...hmmmm ,, make me wounder....

The old 659/5906 magazines always had a horrible rattle when loaded but never failed to work. Though it troubled me at first I finally just accepted it and considered it a non-issue. I've had several other makes of handguns and the Smiths were always the worst about this - just the nature of the beast. .... I admit, though, that I have no experience with the SD series of firearms - yet ;-)

Yeah, sounds like you just got 2 bad mags. My 2 mags for the SD9 do not rattle one bit. They'll check them there, so you're sure to get good ones this time around. Gotta love S&W service!

I have the SD40. One of my mags rattles, the other one doesn't. It has not affected performance one bit, still have zero malfunctions. Congrats on your purchase! I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as I do.

mags...

well i have good news..got the new mags and they don't rattle..and a "NOTE" in the box...per S&W customer service there is NO NEED to send the "bad mags back" to S&W do as you wish with the other mags...

SO looks like i am going to keep the old mags in the safe, since you guys told me it wont hurt anything why not keep them..:D
