[SIERRA HOTEL AT3]

Hey folks,
I've had my Sport for about a year, and have put about 600 rounds through it. This is my first and only AR 15... so far.
I don't have a shooting range closer than 40 miles from me but I do have a pretty nice spot on the river to shoot.
Right now I shoot by myself and don't have anyone with more experience to give me any feedback on my progress.
I'm using the Nikon P-223 3×9×40 600 BDC scope, and shoot from 100 to about 400 yards.
I don't have a range finder, but I'm using a cell phone golf range app that seems pretty accurate. I used it to measure my 1 acre lot and it was right on the money.
Here's 6 shots I took at 369 yards using Perfecta .223 from Walley World. I normally shoot 5.56, 55 grain Federal, but picked up a 100 rounds of the Perfecta to see how it shot.

I'm no long range rifle expert, but to me that's some darn fine shooting.

What is the size of the paper you're using for the target? 8.5"x11"? Once I know, I'll tell you exactly how well you're doing.

14x14 is the target size. Those are 1 inch squares.

OK, based on a 14" wide piece of paper and .224" bullets (they're called .223, but they're really .224" in diameter), here is how your group measures:

I'd say it's pretty good shooting. You have reasonably cheap ammo and a scope with a relatively large reticle. The width of the reticle lines affects how precise a hold you can have. The most narrow line on a Nikon BDC 600 reticle is .25MOA. At the distance you're shooting, this means it will cover about 1" or one whole square on the target you used. The fatter lines are about 1MOA and cover just at 4" of the target. Good enough to hit a deer, but not to win a bench rest match.

So yeah, with an inexpensive rifle, an OK scope and inexpensive ammo, this is about as good as you can expect and better than most you'll meet.

Riding off of what Rastoff said, that isn't bad. With the equipment and ammunition listed, not bad at all. I would be happy with it. Could it be better? Sure, but how much time and money do you want to spend to do it?

I've shot that ammo! You did really good with that ammo! I do not like that ammo.... I found it very inconsistent. I had bought a couple hundred rounds for my boys to shoot, they aren't bad shots, but weren't consistent with this ammo, so I shot some from a rest.

Really? I've actually become quite fond of their .223 ammo. Now 9 and 40 ammo from them is not so great.

I bought some fioochi 223 soft point on sale awhile back, and I think it might be a little bit better than the typical Federal AR223 I generally shoot as far as consistent loads. Maybe I got a bad batch of that perfecta, but I found I had more fliers than usual with it.

I reload and have one load that works excellent in my M&P15A, I need to tweak loads for my other AR's
