I have been lurking around on here for a little over a year now, silently. I figure now is probably the best time to speak up. I held the shield for the first time at my LGS, last week. Instantly fell in love and am thinking of selling my Beretta Nano to get it in 9MM.

Convince me. Let me hear your stories, pro's/con's and how many round you have through it.

I've shot my brothers 9mm Nano and the shield tops it in feel, magazine capacity (1 more round) and trigger pull. I'd say do it. He's considering it after shooting mine.

Had mine in 9mm for over 1 year, no idea how many rounds i have fed it but I do know I have not had a single hiccup.

Welcome to the forum, and congratulation on the Shield.

The Shield has replaced my beloved J-frames, as my EDC. Although it is a little heavier than the Airweights, it prints even less. I can shoot so much more accurately, with the Shield. I now own two Shield9's, and both have functioned perfectly. The only FTL problems I have had, were my fault, due to not loading the first round properly. Once I got used to sling-shoting the slide, I haven't had any problems.

I bought one around a month ago. I've put 200 rounds through it and despite the ammo being lets say cheap, it hasn't had one failure. I stuck some Talon stickys on it and it feels pretty nice in my hand.
I need to shoot it a lot more but I seem to be able to shoot it well already. I just picked up a Cross Breed Super Tuck and I can carry it under an untucked Tee shirt pretty easily and you wouldn't notice it unless you knew to look for it. After a few more hundred rounds it may replace my 442 as my ccw during warm weather at least part of the time. In my opinion you can't go wrong with the Shield in either caliber.

Got my 9mm last April, I love it. I say the Shield.

Love my Shield

I was at my local dealer about a year ago when he unpacked a 9mm Shield from his daily shipment. A guy in front of me had it in his hands looking it over and made the mistake of setting it down and saying he would "think about it". I picked it up, took one look and told them "tag it and bag it, it's mine". I have never regretted the decision for a moment. It is my CCW and is a joy both to shoot and carry. Thank you Smith for making this!

Welcome aboard Atticaz. I now have approximately 3200 rds. through my Shield 9. An initial thorough cleaning, and dry firing before my first date, has led to no problems in firing. I shoot mostly Blazer brass at the range, along with some Win. white box. My only complaint would be the sight dot falling out. Be advised though, you'll be hooked.

I'm curious as to why you own two Shield9's? I can see owning one 9 & one 40.

Anyway, to each his own.

Got mine in .40 yesterday. Same size as my Walther PPK/S in .380 and more comfortable to carry.

I have no regrets w/my Shield 40 but its a snappy little devil. It's my smallest .40S&W out of my others; Stoeger Cougar, Walther PPQ w/PMR (the best new out of box trigger in the firearms market, IMO), XD40sc, and Charter Arms Pitbull .40S&W revolver that kicks like the devil's mule.

I had an interesting conversation with one of the employees at a LGS thats been in business, same location, for over 50 years. I happen to ask him about the Beretta Nano, which he mentioned more than a few customers have complained about needing to send it back for various malfxn's. I did see a NIB Nano they had for sale. However, he said no complaints on the Shield. In fact, they have a hard time keeping a Shield in the inventory because soon as one is placed in the showcase it seems like its already gone, lol.

To me it's a no-brainer but only you can decide. Besides, I can't see someone on a Smith & Wesson Forum telling you the Nano is better :D

I carry every day. When a dot falls off the sights, I can switch guns until I get a chance to repaint the sight. My first Shield was missing the yellow take down lever, and I didn't what to send it in, and be without a Shield. If I want to replace sights, or get action work, I still have a Shied for EDC. Plus, I now have four 8 round mags, two 7 round mags, and plenty of ammo, for both Shields.

Okay, fair enough. Another question, are these your only two S/A handguns?

The reason I need convincing is because I love my Nano. But the Shield has its hooks in me. My Nano is one of the first off the production line and has Zero failures in 750 rounds. Plus I had it NP3 Plus coated and a stainless guide rod installed. After feeling the Shield I fell in love because I am a smaller guy and can actually get a full grip, with the flush fit mag in it. I also like the takedown versus the Nano, the safety versus the striker deactivator. The Nano feels like a block after holding the shield, though. I am so torn. The only way, right now to buy a Shield is to sell the Nano though.

Tell me if you'd have a hard time parting with this.

Welcome friend S&W forum will benefit from your expertise.

You already know how I feel owning both a Nano and Shield 9 mm from the 500+ posts on the Italian gun forum.

I look forward to reading your future posts on the S&W forum.

P.S. I shoot straight and don't sugar coat. You will want to budget for night sights for the Shield. Stock sights are not the highest quality. White dot for some have fallen off. I am into my Shield $449 + $130 XS Big Dot night sights.

I two have two Shields in 9. (So the wife don't take mine). I have always been a little partial to Smiths but would in no way own it just for the name. But they are great guns. I had a 3913 for years and on a brain fart sold it and regreated it ever since. Never really found one for the price I wanted to give. I have been holding off for better then a year on the Shield cus I have never held one. Wanted to feel one before I bought it. Then I found a real good deal in Feb on the net so I ordered two. The only drawback if there is one is the safety. Now to clarify that I asked if there was a safty and the shop said no. When I opened the box I saw it had a safty but after holding it for just a few seconds I realised I would either adapt or carry safty off. After putting a few hundred rounds thru it to make sure no hic-cups I find myself always with safty on. It is easy enough to disengage and in the same area as a 1911 safty. My wife loves hers, I love mine. Daily rotation for her is Shield (1st), J frame (2nd), springfield XD9C (3rd). My daily rotation for me is Shield (1st), Kimber Ultra 2 (2nd), J-Frame (3rd). I can not imagine you not likeing a shield.

Hey there, Russ. I figured I'd run into you here. ;) I think I am heading the way of the Shield. I am just trying to get a good amount out of the Nano. I have a member on the BUSA Forum, biting. It's just a matter of deciding to sell or save for the S&W.

Atticaz,

I love my Shield, have had it close to 4 months now with around 550 rounds through with no issues. I am looking to pick up the Shield .40 as well. If you have a chance to get one, I would grab it up as most in my area are waiting up to 8 months or more for theirs. I've been on the list for the .40 for 4 months now and there were only 2 ahead of me at the time. Good luck with your choice!
