I put this on maybe 2 years ago and pulled out of the case today and it looks chipped/broken? I don't remember that 'blemish' being there

Just replace the insert. Instructions how to do so should have come with the sight. If not, I'd suggest looking for same on SDM website. Likely a little replacement fiber optic material came in the package with the sight, if not SDM can sell you some.

Roll the plastic rod insert ...
So the "defect" is on the bottom ...
You wont see it and it harms nothing .
The little "defect" is where the plastic was injected in the mould ... if you look carefully most of the plastic rods will have them . Roll it down and carry on !

I was hopeful, rolling it sounded promising but it snapped
There were no extra inserts that came with the sight and there's a piece still stuck in the blind hole at the front
Lesson learned

You can drill through the front and put your own fiber in. It's way cheaper and renewable any time you want or need. Just get the same size fiber as the original, melt the back end (the part you see when shooting), rotate it to get the melted part centered on the black sight, trim the front with about one diameter sticking out, and melt the front end. Done.

You have to rotate the fiber because it seldom melts exactly on center. There will be a long piece sticking out the front that you can turn with. You want to use the side of the blue flame to melt with to get a clear end with no black spots. If you over heat or use the yellow part of the flame, it will make black spots. Just cut off that little bit and go again.
