I finally ran across a listing at the local Smith's for a

WHOLE TRUKEY !!

Where are they keeping those and the Ham's, any way !!

I bought two 13 pounders, one for the freezer and one for the Smoker,
when it finally thaws out, in 2-3 days.

Now to get the gravy fixns and some Ocean Spry, and I will be set for a long awaited, meal.

They were going for .99 a lb.

We typically order fresh turkeys for Thanksgiving and ham for Christmas.

Waiting for the local deals to arrive her in central Ohio.

I like to brine or inject mine before putting it on the smoker. The difficult part for me is to find one that already doesn't have a solution of some sort already in it.

OK-I'll say it. Turkey ain't my favorite fowl. There. I said it. Rather have a couple of stuffed boneless chickens as the main course. The sides can stay-except oyster dressing-terrible waste of good oysters and good cornbread dressing.
And since I'm confessing-I like sweet potato pie with ice cream on top. Keep the pumpkin pie. And cranberry sauce is GOOD just as it comes out of the can.

The problem with roasting a whole Turkey is that edible meat remaining after cooking is less than half the weight of the uncooked bird. Most is water, fat, and bones.

I did our turkey last year using the Sous Vide method.

Cooked it to our liking and it never loses moisture.

Once removed from the Sous Vide cooking apparatus I put it in the oven at 375 deg. F for 20 minutes to crisp up the outer skin.

Loved it.

I've been buying these for the past 5 yrs. Everybody loves it. No waste. Cooks from frozen or defrosted.
