We have had our joys and sarrows through life and some of us with more than one marriage and lots of childern to raise, if lucky
and in-laws to bind with...........

Well, 45 years later it has come around full circle, in many ways.

Some kids have gotten divorced and also re-married, some have new boy or girl frinds.........
One D&L just had her new Bronco rear ended and it will take 3 months to fix
due to new part for a new car and, stuff.........

We will all get together this Thanksgiving to meet and enjoy the whole family members, while we are all still living.............

Good health to all and have a happy holiday.

Note;
the "Rear end" D-L just had came over for dinner tonight.....
and made me realise how luky I was.

You have pretty much described our family reunion that we held last August. One of my cousins was there with her fiance and his son. I was so impressed with how her fiance came up to introduce himself to our uncle and how her fiance and his son came up to introduce themselves to me. It came as a surprise to me to be approached as one of the elders of the family, but it finally dawned on me that I was the family elder of my generation.

Our daughter and only child moved to Arizona, my mom was our last parent and passed in August. We'll be alone for the first time in forever.

So... we're having prime rib and yorkshire pudding. :)

Still, would be good to have some family.

When my oldest was in 8th grade, I began a tradition of every other year, Thanksgiving is at my house! That works out to the odd numbered years. My local son and his family and the two older East Coast kids their families, along with all the In-Laws, their kids and grandkid.

So Since 1993 the family has piled into out home, and since it is considered mandatory My kids have almost always made. The oldest two were in Combat Zones in 2002, and my youngest has little ones that can't travel the 528 miles (But I expect 2023 we will be whole again)

Our record was 38 one year! That may be small to many families but, there are only 3 born into my generation, and 9 into the next and almost 19 in the next! We are now filling the planet!

My oldest son's wife is from Germany, and she was amazed at all the types of food (like most people from Europe, she hates pumpkin pie!), But I think the cousins that travel hundreds of miles to celebrate our Thanksgiving together surprises her the most!

Several years ago my wife's sister remarried, and brought her new husband and his son to Thanksgiving. The son resisted all attempts to get him to join in the fun! A Week later my wife was on the phone with her sister, so I picked up the extension, and said how sorry I was that David didn't have a good time! Her answer was a shock, "David won't shut up about the wonderful time he had!" Turns out, it was the first Thanksgiving dinner he'd been to that someone didn't get stabbed or shot!

So I hope all my S&W Forum family enjoy your natural family this year!

Ivan

My wife had an objection back in 1993; What about spouses family on our years? They are ALWAYS welcome to join the crowd! Since then none of the families have joined us, but they all made traditions of their own that mesh with ours, and that helps us get along with them.
