News reports are that the US has used a drone to kill Ayman al-Zawahiri. The President is going to address the nation this evening to make the official announcement.

If this guy's name doesn't ring a bell, it's because he was not as prominent to the general public as his partner Osama bin Laden...but he was one of the chief architects of the 9/11 attacks. And it warms the cockles of my heart to know that tonight, he's eating dinner with Satan.

Good riddance...

With all the attacks Al Qaeda and IS have done to the Taliban, they probably dropped a dime on him.

One of the reasons I read The Lounge is for the obituaries.
To this one I rejoice.
Are there still those 70 or so virgins waiting for him?

Awww, aren't we the good guys taking all that care top avoid collateral damage. Me, I'd have stuck a laser guided Tallboy in there and leveled the block. Simple message for the Taliban heirachy, you lie with filth you're going to get grubby...or dead.

Good. Hope it was a painful experience.

It truly satisfied my sense of justice that Osama bin Laden knew the jig was up, and that he was about to die, and the last thing he saw was a Navy SEAL coming toward him to take his life.

Ayman al-Zawahiri probably never knew what hit him. Personally, I would rather have seen him bound and gagged, coated with honey, and tied to a tree in the middle of grizzly bear country...but at least he's gone, and that's good enough, I suppose.

Yes, al-Zawahiri is dead....

...and has gone to his "reward" as was so richly and long overdue deserved.

Before anyone celebrates too much, I'd like to remind you of the ancient myth of the Hydra. "cut off one head and two will rise to take its place".

No different with him. His successor(s) are already there and hiding in plain sight and have been for a while.

al_Zawahiri hid literally in plain sight. The ones I fear are there but invisible.

His death changes nothing and the fight goes on.

I have been trying to be more gracious and forgiving in my approach to things these days.
Some days are easier than others, and I'm certainly no saint.

Instead of praying for or celebrating a man's passing, I offer this simple thought...

God's will be done.

I think that covers it.
