I've wanted to own a Python since I was a kid in the Seventies. Last week I realized that I'm 55 years old and I was tired of just looking. So, I raided my savings account and ordered one of the new Pythons with the 3" barrel. I picked it up at my LGS a few hours ago. It's a very nicely put together revolver I have to say. This is the most expensive handgun that I have ever purchased, but it appears to be worth the money. I'll be taking it to the range on my next weekend.

I hope it is everything you wanted. A few years ago, I picked up a couple of Pythons from the 70s, in very good shooter condition. I had been wanting one for 35 years. I must have been shooting Smiths for too long, because they both looked better than they shot. My 2 1/2" 19-3 shot circles around them, as did my 4" 66-1 and my 5" 27-2. Needless to say, I still have the Smiths and no snakes in the safe. I do hear that the new Pythons are excellent shooting guns, I may have to give one a try someday. Good luck with your new Python, and don't forget the range report after you shoot it.

Congratulations and welcome to the new 3” Python gang!

Last year I picked up a 3”, still hot off the press. Didn’t think they’d do a 2.5”, at least not so soon. Grabbed one of those last weekend.

I actually bought my first Python two years ago when I was 56. Here’s my Nevada Colt family photo. I have more spread out over three states. My friend, it’s a slippery slope. :D

LOL. You think that's "expensive".

Congrats! I think you're gonna love shooting it. They're really cool revolvers.

Other than the usual quibbles (poor rear sight design and SA trigger pull) I am happy with mine.

I have a 4.25” on the way. Ordered Pachmayr & Hogue grips, Wilson sights and a speed loader. Touched base with Mike Heffron to get on the list for some tuning.
Once it’s here, I’ll take it out to play with my 14’s & 15’s.

For as long as the “new” Pythons have been out, I still haven’t seen any serious accuracy testing or results at meaningful distances (ie: beyond 25 yds).
When Colt introduced the Hunter model and Silhouette model Pythons in the 1980s, they were often tested for accuracy at 100 yards in published articles. Of course, IHMSA was really going strong at the time. Ruger and S&W were really duking it out, and Dan Wesson was breaking new ground. Colt was a little late to the game and really tried to prove themselves, especially given all they had was a 357 Magnum when the 44 Magnum was “de rigueur”.
In any case, there were occasionally some very impressive groups being shot.

I don’t think I’ve seen anything indicating that the new Pythons could group any better (or even as well!) at 25 yds like the Silhouette or Hunter models could at 100 yds.

Anyhow, I’m glad I’ve kept my old periodicals, not to mention personal records, as this study of handgun accuracy gets “memory-holed” by the internet.

I had one years ago. It was a bright SS and had a six inch barrel. Shot well, but to me was very muzzle heavy. Traded it off for a 3rd Gen Colt SAA (thats gone too).

I intend to replace the rear sight with the Wilson sight. I don't have any issues with the single action trigger pull. The overall quality of the revolver appears to be excellent. I also watched the videos when it was released in 2020 (especially the Hickock 45 fiasco) and I've heard about improperly fitted side plates and scratched up muzzles, but this one appears to be good. I've also heard that CZ instigated some changes at the factory when it acquired Colt. That was two years ago.

Couldn't shoot Colts as well as S&W's...got out finally

Some 56 years ago when I started accumulating guns I thought there was only one brand name worth having and that was Colt. Owned em, shot em, "collected" em...but shooting was not very good for me. Then I bought a M36 for EDC (in New York no less) and I could shoot that guy really good. Started my slide down the slope.

About 10-15 years ago, looked at the Colt's in the safe and decided to let them go in favor of more Smith's.

The 6" 1971 Colt Python was an interesting local sale to an airline pilot, who told me the ruling allowing pilots to carry aboard and in the cockpit was what he wanted the "best-of-the-best" for. I for one would not want to be the one trying to beat his way into that cockpit!:D

Don't know the MSRP on the new Pythons, but this one sold for $2,450 in 2014.

Enjoy old eye candy...the pics are all I have left.

I own eight Colt DA revolvers (now) and a seventies era Colt Combat Commander (mfd. 1974). I own twenty-four various S&W DA revolvers and four S&W semi-autos. FWIW I also have four Ruger DA revolvers (Security Six and GP100). Smith & Wesson revolvers are still my favorites, but I do have a fondness for Colt products.

GREAT collection!!! Only thing missing is a 4 5/8 In mdl P.

I wish the new ones came in blued steel, like the old ones.
While not actually blue steel, after all stainless does not take blue gracefully, the Colt Custom Shop did produce the 3" Python in polished black DLC.

When these become available again I plan on grabbing one

I too love Pythons. I have quite a few at the moment.

I have all four barrel lengths in Ultimate Stainless. My 2 1/2" has the Walt Shermon roller bearing conversion installed. DA is juust unbelievable on this revolver

Though the best conversation starter is the Snake Eyes set that is in my study

I have been inside many Pythons and I can appreciate how the current Python lock work has been streamlined over what is under the side plate of a Vintage Python

The rarest Python I have been around is serial number C1

This is the only snubby Python that is Factory chambered in 22LR

There are 2 6" blue 22 Pythons. Serial numbers C2 and C3

I have the same gun, a recent purchase, and I really enjoy it.

The action is quite a bit different from a SW, but that doesn't mean it's "worse" or "better." It is just different.

To me, the model you picked up is the best looking one of the offerings.

Enjoy!

PS: Read up about the rear sight, and make sure you know how to secure it. It's also "different" from the SW sight.
