Finally bought a Python

I too love Pythons. I have quite a few at the moment.

I have all four barrel lengths in Ultimate Stainless. My 2 1/2" has the Walt Shermon roller bearing conversion installed. DA is juust unbelievable on this revolver

Though the best conversation starter is the Snake Eyes set that is in my study

I have been inside many Pythons and I can appreciate how the current Python lock work has been streamlined over what is under the side plate of a Vintage Python

The rarest Python I have been around is serial number C1

This is the only snubby Python that is Factory chambered in 22LR

There are 2 6" blue 22 Pythons. Serial numbers C2 and C3
Those are truly Amazing! Wow!

Mine is a 1980 6" bought new back then, has maybe one or two boxes
of ammo through it, I take it out once in a while just to admire the unbelievable blueing, beautiful!

Mine is a 4” blued, made in 1975 (purchased used). Beautiful revolver.

Congrats on a nice revolver. I'll bet it will shoot for you. I already owned a new Anaconda, and had no plans for a Python, but when I seen a 3 inch version at a local gun shop, I broke weak.

It makes a good woods carry companion piece to my S&W model 69 with a 2.75 inch barrel. They even fit in the same holsters. Accuracy wise, either gun will keep them on a paper dinner plate at 50 yards, provided I use a field rest of some sort; fuzzy front sight and all.

I paid $1499 for my 6" in 2020. $1429 this year for the 2.5". Now they are all $1329 at my LGS. Value for Pythons are going the wrong way. My model 29's continue to go up in value. Either way I love them all

I am not a revolver guy, having only a 28-2 until I bought a 4.25 inch new Python a few months ago. Seems like a really nice, heavy pistol for my big hands. I reload 38 and 357 and find the heavier loads beat me up a bit. I think I will save my 357 loads for my Henry Lever in that caliber and be kind to my hand and shoot 38 spl in my two revolvers. But I want and enjoy shooting all of my firearms with the absolute best accuracy I can possibly achieve, and the big fat red sight on my Python's front sight is too blocky for the kind of accuracy I want, even shooting off a sandbag. So a month or so ago, ordered a gold dot front (I have gold dot fronts on some of my other handguns, and like them a lot). Wilson was out, so ordered it from Optic Planet, which of course sells all sorts of sights and such. But the delivery date keeps being postponed, now out to the end of October. So I am not wasting ammo now trying to sight my Python in until I get the gold dot on.

The fat Colt red insert is just too big, and besides, I am red/green color blind anyway, so i can't see its outline very well. Looking forward to shooting it. Oh, by the way, I had El Paso Saddlery make a nice holster for my 4 inch 28-2, and my Python fits fine in that holster. One less thing to buy for my Python.

All the best, SF VET

I bought the 4.25 inch back in May. I’m enjoying it, but would have opted for the 5 inch had it been available at the time. I waited three years and finally could wait no more.

I bought mine a few weeks back. I had a 1973 model stolen from my apartment in a daylight burglary in 1977. I really don't know why I never bought another one shortly after my first one was stolen. I was single at the time. I was making pretty good money. I bought and traded other guns. I really wonder why I never bought another way back then. So, a few weeks ago I was reading on here or some other forum about the new Python and reflecting on my loss 40 some years back. Right then I told myself I was going to my favorite gun shop the next day; if they had a 6" Python, it was coming home with me. Well, they did and it did.
I did put the Wilson Combat rear sight on it.(already had one on my Anaconda). And I ordered a set of grips from Deer Hollow. The factory grips look like the original Python grips, but in reality, to me at least, they're not even close. So this is my Python, after 46 years of being Pythonless . And yes I know I bought the gold medallion grips; I like the way they look.

I have no interest in either a new or old Python, as I already own two Colts equivalent to the Python, and in fact are considerably less common. A 6" 3-5-7 and a 4" .357 Trooper. About two months ago I saw a new Colt Python at Rural King. I think it had a price tag on it of about $1600.

Yes, i also own a 6" 3-5-7 from the first year of production. I paid $450 for it at an estate auction back in 2019. Great revolver and it's a keeper, but the desire for a Python has never gone away. It was an itch that had to be scratched. I paid $1,365 for mine incidentally.

Congrats on your purchase! I too have been wanting one of the new ones, since I lost out on a sale of an ‘81, years ago. I purchased a 4” last January and absolutely love it! Although, I have noticed these new grips do interfere with speedloaders. Anyone else had this issue in the new “2020” models?

I ordered Pachmayr & Hogue grips for my Python. Didn't like the feel of the Hogue's so they went back. My holster from JM Custom Kydex is here and is a perfect fit. Ordered an Allchin micro mount yesterday that will replace the Wilson rear sight with a reflex sight from Holosun. My eyes will be happier this way.
I'm searching for a Dan Wesson 357 to go along with the Python. Two leads so far, so fingers crossed.
