FINALLY.. the space in the collection where the early large ejector knob K22 belongs has been filled.

It was love at first site when I first spied it on day one of the SWCA Orlando meeting .

4 digit serial number under 2700 with serial matched grips...
Probably guessing it will letter to mid 1947.

A big THANK YOU to Mr. Lee Jarrett for "Hooking me up" with this one and
a late pre war K22 Outdoorsman as well.....Now if I could only find that ever elusive pre war 2nd model K22 Masterpiece...

PS,
Noting that the SCSW has serials K101 to K614 listed as 1946,
Does anyone have a K22 that actually letters to having been shipped in 1946 or did K22's not ship until 1947 ?

What a fine specimen you have there. I've got K 2649 (shipped July of 1947). And yes, I do believe one of our members has a 3 digit serial. I can't remember if it was a 46'er or not. There were VERY few that shipped in 1946 as I understand it.

Congrats on finding that extremly nice and early .22.

Roger our guns were on the same assembly line with 35 others between them.

BTW, saw a K22 with a 3 digit serial number close to 900 that shipped in 1947 at the SWCA meeting in Orlando.

Beautiful gun. Congratulations on adding that one to the stable.

Roger, I like yours too.

I don't actually know of a K-22 that shipped in 1946, but there were low three-digit serial numbers (plus K, of course) that shipped in early 1947. I'm thinking that there may be a very few K-22s that shipped in December 1946, but most of them left home in the following year.

K4267 is in my safe and shipped in September 1947.

I looked up the early availability of the Masterpiece models. According to Roy Jinks in HOS&W, p. 177, the first K-22s were available for sale on December 13, 1946.

Nice early K model you found there. How does it shoot? You just gotta love those one liners.
The fact that those two guns are only 35 numbers apart is very cool!!

Engine 49 guy,

That is one real screamer and a prize for any collection. Always nice to score one like that. Enjoy fondling and shooting.

Engine49guy and Memphis, my K-22, S/N 2709 was hanging out with your two revolvers at the same time on that assembly line. It shipped on 8/22/47.

My guess is SCSW just used Roy's early number to date tables. I believe Drew's K117 did letter as December of 46. I've got K155 and K166 and they letter to January of 47. I've seen K137 and K141 and they letter to December, too. Remember in all this we keep saying "guns weren't made or shipped in numeric sequence." But the reality seems to be the first maybe 50 guns (K101 to K150 +- ) were 1946 guns. I have no idea if numbers up around K1000 were shipped early, but I'm tending to doubt it.

As for ownership/shooting questions, :D, I shoot K155. Its my shooter K22 for a number of reasons. I don't abuse it, don't soak it in streams or lakes, and I clean it after the sessions. But its been shot before I scored it, and my plan is to shoot it till I die. Then my sons can sell it cheap for mortgage money or whatever. Or maybe my wife will call David Carroll to stop on one of his trips and take all the junk away! :)

I've also got K20011, a 1948 gun. Its heavily engraved in the style of Ben Shostle, very deep relief cuts. I don't shoot it, but its tempting. :) I've even considered a different line of work from my retirement. I've considered becoming a Naw Lin's pimp. Its got a very nice set of pearly carved grips. I like the gun, I like the pearls, and I like how they work together.

Wow, all these low numbered K22s. I've got one Masterpiece and it's an older K33xx gun. I shoot it often with whatever bulk stuff I take to the range. It does like the CCI MM HPs and Wolf Match. It shoots better than I do and I almost put it away for keeping after I found a Colt Trooper MKIII, but both shoot well, so I keep on shooting both.

Mine was found on consignment at a local gun store while I was on terminal leave from the military awaiting the retirement date. I thought it was a fitting gift to myself after 21 years in the Air Force. Four C notes and a trip to the gunsmith to tighten up a bit of endshake and it is a favorite still. It often goes along with me on varmint hunting trips up in S. Dakota and Wyoming for prairie rattler encounters.

My son's 'one liner' #K15153 is in very nice condition, maybe 95% and didn't come with it's original grips but it was free after selling the original Sandersons that came on it and getting correct vintage Magnas.

mine isn't as early as most of yours, i'm thinking 47 or 48 maybe. it also
has a great front sight... enjoy

I got this one about a year ago off an auction site (the pics are from that site).

I think "any" early post war K-22 is a treasure. I lucked into this one as the seller had it mis-listed and no one else got on it ahead of me. Still haven't shot it yet but I intend to. I've got another one in numbered in the 88,000 range that I've shot quite a bit.

I would love to see some pics of Drews K117 and rburg's low numbered K22's.

Don
