This is a LE trade in I recently purchased. This is a super nice weapon. I assume the trigger has been worked as the reset is very short and pull nice and smooth without being too light. Double action is smooth as well with a small "click" in the beginning:confused: The heft really reduces recoil and gets you on target a tad quicker than say my P220. I had also worked a trade where I recieved a M&P in 40 the day before this purchase. At first "feel" I thought the M&P may take over the top spot as my fav gun but, not a chance. The 4506 and my beloved 220 are neck and neck, for now. The '06 need some new sights to replaced the gone factory nights and she will be all good.:D

A few more range sessions and the 4506 will knock that 220 out of the top spot. ;)

Congrats! Now THAT is a S&W 45. Good looking with a good trigger. Enjoy! Regards 18DAI.

Glad to see another happy S&W owner. I noticed you said there was a click in the trigger pull. If you notice the click only in the single-action trigger pull, there is a quick and simple fix for it.

The click is in single action. I assume it is no real problem just kind of annoying. But if I can get rid of it that would be cool.

Thanks

I have one marked with the same markings-I believe it's a Brownsville TX P.D.

My 4566TSW did the same thing and it is pretty common issue, and a very easy fix. I found the other thread on the forum that deals with the issue. First, you take off the slide, and if you cock the hammer back, and pull the trigger a short ways you can see where the bent-tab is causing friction. If you take a pencil with a fairly new and flat eraser, you can gently push on the top of the tab and bend it just a little towards the muzzle of the gun. I didn't apply much pressure or bend it a lot, just a lot of guess and check. Best part is you can check it with the slide off to make sure you have adjusted enough to stop catching in single-action.

Here is a link to the original posting, as this is a pretty common issue with the 4566 as well. http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-...s/74227-new-me-4566-has-clicking-problem.html

Here is a great shot of the tab you need to adjust. (Also in other posting.) When you cock the hammer, and pull the trigger a little ways, you can tell where the tab is clicking. Just a minor amount of adjustment should eliminate the issue.

Which tab requires adjustment; is it the middle tab that is riveted in place or the ears on either side? Thanks

Yes. Once the slide is off, cock the hammer for single-action. If you pull the trigger slightly you can see where the "click" is coming from. Then the applying some pressure to bend that tab forward, should get it so that the contact isn't made, and the "click" disappears.

My 20 year old 4506 is one of the very few 45's I've owned that straight out of the box would feed anything and everything. It's never had a FTF, stovepipe, FTE or any other malfunction.

I keep it stoked with CorBon 200 gr HPs which feed like hardball. No finer pistol was ever made by S&W and-it's all steel!

Those tabs are gone in mine. I can see where they were. As the trigger is pulled, the piece it activates moves slightly up and clicks. I dont think it is a real problem just an annoyance.

Some Police Departments had the trigger play spring left out or had them taken out due to it braking easily and is really not needed in the function of the pistol. CHP had this done on there 4006 and 4006TSW.

The 4506 is a dang fine gun. I shoot mine better then any 1911 I have every owned. I had a 4526 that was a tack driver too. Mine is a 4506-1 with adjustable sights that was used by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

I am pretty confused about this here spring. If clearly the
spring is not needed, my faith in S&W is that they never
would have put it in there in the first place. So what
is the purpose of the spring? What are we doing without
when the spring is removed ?

Scott,

The trigger play spring just takes up the looseness or slack of the trigger in single action. Gives a better feel to it for take up and easy reset. A extra thing that is not needed for function but for comfort of the shooter.

If you do a search here for Trigger Play Spring you should find some very informative posts and some more insight from Forum Member Fastbolt who is a retired Police S&W Armorer. He can explain it in more detail then I can.

The 4506 is a lot better gun to me than the Sig 220. I have shot a lot with each of my model 4506 guns and have even loaned one to another owner of a Sig 220 until he can find a 4506 of his own. None of mine guns for sale but if I did, the Sig would be gone.

I purchased a SW1911 Performance last week and I doubt it will replace the 4506 in my list of favorites.

In regards to your nite sights, if they are Trijicon's send the slide to Trijicon and they will re-lamp them for $54.00 and extend your warranty for another 13 years. I did that with two 4006's that were PD trade in's. Much cheaper than buying new sights! They are also very speedy in doing so. Both of mine were done in about a week including shipping both ways.
