Finding and treasuring an old treasure - .44 HE in 44-40 !

I never heard of a "Golden Boy". The original 1860 Henry had a brass frame, and was sometimes called the Yellow Boy, but the original Henry and the later M1866 Wichester were both chambered in .44 rimfire only. The first guns chambered in .44-40 (44WCF) were the M1873 Winchesters. Sometime later, Colt chambered their M1873 single action in .44WCF, and called it the Frontier model.

Ah, maybe they changed the name... It's what they are calling the .22 version of it now. I thought they were using the same name as back then. But I stand corrected if it changed....

I saw OP's thread and the one thing that jumped out at me after reading it was how obvious to me that a newspaper ad would work...the only people I know that still read the local paper or old people, just the sort you want to reach as regards selling "old stuff". It was a "Duh" moment for me and like others wondered why I hadn't thought of that. But as was also mentioned I am very leery about putting my information out there in regard to looking as if I am a collector of anything to make me appear any more attractive to the criminal element. As it is I do most of my dealings away from the house, in public view.
Good for you in your excellent score, I also appreciate the fact that you are staying in touch with the old boy, taking him shooting might be the high light of his year. I've got a 93 year old friend that no longer is capable of shooting but up til a year ago we would all work to get him up on the line to shoot his old rifle, he was always more interesting at getting us to shoot it but that was part of what endeared us to him.

I had a 6 1/2" 44-40 at the SWCA meeting in 2014. I showed it to Roy and Jim Fisher at the same time, and quoted the 565 production number from the S&W Std Cat . The two person consensus was far less than 565, best guess around 50 -100. Don't know what that does to the 32 number for the 5 incher.
