Finding value of Smith and Wesson revolvers

I need to raise some money to make a different purchase so need to offer some revolvers for sale. Would this forum be a good place to find a fair price to offer them or where else would I look?

You can get info here and sell them here as well. However, you may find it useful to go on the auction sites and check the "sold" information to see for how much comparable condition guns have recently sold. There are usually good pictures which allow you to compare condition to your guns. Then keep in mind the extra costs of auctions (shipping/FFL transfer). Local conditions may influence prices from what you see on the auction sites. Good luck.

While not guns, I did recently sell some nicely-figured S&W factory checkered target stocks and listed them here for the actual amount I felt the stocks were worth with the plan that I would give them a week on here before listing them on GunBroker. They all sold either here or locally for the asking price or, in two cases, a little less.

I've sold numerous guns on GunBroker and found their charges quite fair while I think eBay's, for example, are quite high. eBay doesn't sell guns but is the better site for the buyer of those same stocks I sold (and continue to buy) as more sellers of that item seem to use it for some reason. Just this week, I have purchased a set of stocks on each site.

Speaking strictly as a seller, forums like this one CAN (not always) attract tire-kickers seeking a bargain while auctions are usually attended by more potential buyers who will bid an item up to and sometimes past its current actual value because quality items will be worth more in the future.

Yes, Gunbroker is the way to go for maximum price.

GB may give you the highest price, but likely only under certain conditions. If you are a new seller (little or no feedback) potential bidders will be reluctant to be the first to buy from you. . .and initial prices are likely to be limited by that reluctance. The best prices are realized by those who have high condition guns and many, many excellent pictures at all angles. Sometimes supporting information about the type of gun, any unusual factors (scarcity/number produced/etc.) explained, can help too. If you don't have A+ feedback history, or any at all, and aren't great at pictures and info, and if your guns are not in high condition, you may be disappointed by the auction prices. You also have the hassle (and cost) of having to find an FFL to ship the guns for you. Auction sites can be great, but they will not always automatically produce the best prices for the least effort. I agree completely but want to emphasize only looking at "competed" and "sold" auctions. There are a lot of guns on Gunbroker with pie in the sky "buy it now" or opening bids which in no way reflect current market value. I have seen guns which realistically should sell in the $500-$700 have opening bids at $2000 - these guns frequently will be relisted for months if not years.

Complete auction pricing for guns which met reserve and actually sold is a great way do get an idea of what a gun is worth.

It is also important to compare apples to apples - Condition, Condition, Condition - along with box, papers and accessories all can significantly change what a gun is worth. 2 guns in the exact same condition, one with everything that gun came with new and one which is only the gun can have a significant price difference, in some cases thousands of dollars. Condition of the box and accessories also plays into the final price.

There is a classified section on this site for guns and a separate section fro accessories. Those sections of the forum are fairly active and if you price your stuff reasonably it will sell quickly.

Thanks for the information. I will most likely post n models in 45 acp, 45 colt and 357. Just have to figure out what to ask. Want to fund a guitar so not looking for top dollar, but not give them away either. I am certainly willing to listen to fair offers.
