Looking at one that appears to be pretty good mechanically - a tiny bit of endshake but otherwise lockup and timing appear to be good. 6" full-underlug barrel, bore & cylinder look good. The biggest problem is that the condition of the bluing is a little rough.

It has some freckling on one side of the cylinder, a line of light surface rust along the barrel rib on one side, and a couple of other dings & handling marks.

It's wearing a pair of target stocks that are even rougher than the finish. They look like someone took the gloss off them with a piece of 120 grit sandpaper, and then didn't do anything to refinish them.

The price is the big attraction - $425. But that seems like it might be just a tad high with the cosmetics being what they are. Any thoughts?

I would buy it, use some oil and copper wool to get the rust off, and shoot the pants off it.

I'm mainly a "Ruger guy" but DANG! ....... $425 sounds plenty reasonable to me!

$425 sounds decent. Maybe try to talk it down a bit more? My buddy has one and I don't feel the difference in recoil between that and my 28-2. With the full underlug it's the poor man's python. Sort of.

That's a crazy low price even for described condition. Just once I would love to run into one of these deals that so many here question , then post it here.

That is a low price. If you want it, buy it. But personally speaking, I have learned over the years NOT to buy just on price alone. Do you really want one with a 6" barrel? The finish problems don't bother you? Purchasing it would be fine for you then.

But be advised: you can't buy every good deal you run across! Don't ask me how I know this! :o

By all means, GET IT!
My personal 586 4" was my duty gun back in the early to mid 80's, until our township solicitor demanded that we carry Dept.-owned weapons. That was when we switched to semi-autos, HK P7-M8's.

I HAVE TO ROLL WITH Jack Flash, ON THIS. I WOULD NOT BUY THIS GUN, UNLESS A 6" BARREL, WAS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED---AND THE APPEARANCE REALLY DID NOT MATTER TO ME......

YOUR INTENDED PURPOSE, FOR THE GUN. SHOULD ALSO PLAY A PART IN YOUR DECISION MAKING PROCESS. FOR INSTANCE, IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GUN TO KEEP IN A TRUCK, CAMPER, OR BOAT--AND NOT CARE THAT IT GETS KNOCKED ABOUT--THIS MIGHT BE PERFECT......
