Finished UPDATE: Picked up a nice M1903

So I've pretty much finished cleaning this one up and refinishing the USGI stock. As I thought, once I got it apart I confirmed this rifle was a 100% original Remington M1903 (modified) which dates to 1942. I think it cleaned up well.

Faulkner, you did a great job on your restoration project. I'm glad to see that you preserved the original-type linseed oil finish on the stock, and it looks really good.

I treasure my '03 (modified) not only because it's a collectible, but I once showed it to my uncle, who was a WWII vet. After handling it, he remarked that was very nostalgic for him, because it was a virtual duplicate of the '03 that he was issued in OCS training. My uncle has passed away now, but the rifle he handled and discussed with me has special meaning as a tangible memory of him and his service.

The picture below of him and me was taken during WWII. You will note that I wore one of his shoulder patches on my left shoulder.
