The cheap .357 thread reminded me to ask this question. I like the price and performance of the 125 grain Fiocchi but am curious if anyone has chronographed it. I was looking at a website called ballistics 101 and the Fiocchi claims roughly 175ft/lbs more energy and 200 feet per second over Federal, Remington, and Winchester. Is this correct? At $20 per 50 seems like a good deal.

American ammo is produced under SAAMI pressure limits. European ammo is produced under C.I.P. pressure limits which are usually higher than SAAMI limits. That's probably why the velocities on the Fiocchi ammo are higher than Rem, Win and Fed ammo.

That doesn't mean the Fiocchi ammo is not safe, only that it's held to the higher pressures that SAAMI used to use before they started worrying about the super light handguns we started carrying for SD. (like a 12oz .357 Magnum J frame)

That's my take on this matter...

with that much of an increase they may be using a regular test barrel of unknown length. the American companies standardized on a 4 inch vented barrel just so it was an even playing field for comparison

If you look at the current Fiocchi on line catalog the ballistics for the .357 mag 125gr JSP is 1,500 fps at the muzzle and 1,450 fps at the muzzle for the 125gr JHP. The ballistics for the 125gr JHP is identical to full power Remington or Winchester from a 4" vented test barrel used to simulate a round fired from a revolver. IMO there's no difference in ballistics between Fiocchi and any major manufacturer. The discrepancies in the earlier data was likely due to taking data from non vented test barrels of unknown length.

i know its not the same round but, the fiocchi was a TON more accurate out of my 1911 3.5" than anything else i have shot...

Thats kind of what i figured or maybe ballistics 101 miswrote the data. i love Fiocchi ammo and their .357 125 grain jhp seems to be the best bang for your buck.

I inherited a Colt 38 Super last year and needed some ammo and so I purchased standard velocity Fiocchi 38 Super. I shot 150 round without any problems but definitely noticed that their standard velocity ammo was hotter than the Remington +P 38 Super I also had on hand. Other than that - accurate, reliable and reasonably well made ammo.
