Even though not grounded,
Will a drone attract a lightning strike?
So, Faulker, are you operating the camera from the ground, taking pictures whenever you press a button or whatever? And your lightning shots -- were they just good fortune, or does the camera have some sort of multiple frames capability, so you increase your chances of getting a shot at the exact instant you have to?
Seems to me that not one, but three lightning shots is extraordinarily good luck, if luck is what it is!
Ha, you are giving me more credit that I deserve. Actually, I put the camera in HD video mode which shoots 13 hi-def frames per second. I just point the drone at the storm, activate the camera remotely via the drone console and let it film for 10-15 minutes. Once I download the video I use software to view the video one frame at a time and pull out the frames with the lightning strikes. Even at 13 frames per second some of the lightning bolts are so fast the camera didn't pick them up.
Way cool!
If you don't mind my asking, how expensive a hobby is this to get into? I think it would be a blast.
Okay, here's one more photo. After this one the rain started to move our direction and I brought the drone in for a landing. Bottom fell out of the sky about the time I gather up the drone and made it to the garage.
