Firefox update

Firefox auto updated my PC this A.M.. New layout and it's pretty different. Lost use of some add ons they won't support with new VER 57. One add on I use all the time was gone. I reverted back to VER 56 for now and turned off auto update. That is all, over and out.

back in november i accepted this update and was not happy with it so i followed op's advice and went back to the previous version and have been happy with it but i am concerned that refusing the update could lead to problems.

besides the pop up box suggesting i update every time i start firefox, in the past week i've also received this message a couple times...
"your firefox is critically out of date. an update is required to stay secure"

are any of you guys that didn't update having any problems or concerns?
any advice?

chrome is not an option as google is as bad or worse than facebook, which i also won't use, when it comes to snooping and invading your privacy.

I still have one desktop with XP and one laptop with Vista. No one bothers me when I am on those.

I even have a desk top up in the attic with Windows 95. And an old 8085 out in the shed with DOS as the OS; that one I understood. Ah, those were the days.

My Firefox became so slow and cumbersome I gave up on it as it was essentially unusable. Nothing I did seemed to help. I switched completely to Opera and have no complaints. Chrome is now my backup browser but I'll reserve it for emergency use only. I guess Microsoft Edge is still residing in the system somewhere just in case.

It is my understanding that Firefox versions 57 and newer have some protections against Specter/Meltdown. This may be why you are getting so many warning pop-ups if you are running Firefox 56 or older, and is why I finally upgraded my browser.
If this is inaccurate, someone please correct me.

What in the world has happened to Firefox???

I have to switch to another browser to be be able to see the comments and comment myself on Youtube.

This latest update MAY have fixed that, but I doubt it.

Same here but no problems. I don't get the update suggestion anymore since I turned Firefox automatic update off. Every update I got up to 56 slowed my computer and used more and more memory so I don't trust the new version yet and just ignore the critical warning.
