Fireworks

I walk dogs at the local shelter. As soon as silly season starts the number of strays doubles - scared by the idiots making freedom-noise. They jump the fence or find some other way out.

We had a horse in Idaho, and had to sedate the old boy so he wouldn’t break a leg trying to get away from the aerial bombardment.

I was walking this guy when the owner showed up to claim him. It was lucky he didn’t get run over or eaten by coyotes.

Also not a fan.

Making laws stopping people from celebrating the date we told a restrictive government to butt out, just won't work

Yes, plenty of nitwits lighting them off, plenty of inconsiderate ones too. A few days a year. Grin and Bear it.

Yeah, I'm sure that's what the people with the burned out homes and/or yards here in Vegas have said over the years.

When I was about eight years old my Dad brought home the greatest present anyone my age could ever expect. It was a hand made aluminum cannon made to fire common rubber balls that could be found in the dime stores at that time. A fellow employee made them at the chemical plant where Dad was a supervisor. It had a metal screw on cap with a hole in it at the bottom of the cannon. The cannon sat on a square plate for stability. The way it worked: You unscrewed the cap and place a cherry bomb fuse or M 80 fuse through the hole in the cap and then screwed it back in while holding on to the fuse. You then took the rubber ball and stuffed it into the barrel of the cannon with a broom stick where it stopped just over the cherry bomb or M 80. Then, you lit the fuse. A cherry bomb would blow it very high in the air. An M 80 would blow it several hundred feet into the air, sometimes out of sight. We would try and catch it with our hands on the way down but were seldom successful until after a few bounces.

I liked throwing cherry bombs underneath the water's surface. Loved those waterproof babes.

Juat what good has anything else done?
Laws against fireworks that don't get obeyed, are impossible to effectively enforce just don't work.

Kind of like a law saying felons and gang bangers can't have gun

Drinking was involved? I’m stunned.

SC man dead from fireworks explosion on head

“According to an incident report from the sheriff's office, the man's wife was interviewed at the scene. The woman said it was a block party and her husband had been drinking. She said he placed a firework on his head, "which she believes was done to show off," according to the report.“

Darwin was spot on!

Well you got to consider that sort of poetic justice. A block head killed at a block party!

They had quite a weekend here in central Ohio. I was coming back from playing golf Saturday and saw a guy with a trailer hooked to his garden tractor. It was probably 16 ft or so. The entire trailer was stacked with what looked like 500 gram cakes. Looked like they were gonna have a hot time that night.
