I have used the search button no luck, I'm looking for a hammer style firing pin for the model 10 and 586 can't seem to find them any where do they still make them or are these two revolvers now useless

replacement hammer nose
The hammer nose and rivets are still available. Check the usual places....Midway, Numrich and Brownells. I also see them on E-bay from time to time.
Be advised the part numbers are different for the two models you list above. (The hammer noses for the K and L frames are different design and part#)
You can also call S&W Customer Service as they sometimes have some of these in stock. Call 1-800-331-0852
Midway has the Power Custom hammer nose in stock for the K,L and N frames, but they are an expensive alternative to the OEM ones. As you said though, the guns are paperweights without these parts. Check the link below:
