Here is what could possibly be the first .44 4th Model Target that was shipped from the factory. If not the first then one of the first few. Note the early large ejector rod cut out that is usually found on 3rd models and 3rd model transitionals. It also has a unique box as it is a box for a 1950 .45 target gun with a .44 overstamp. The serial number is S78585 and was shipped on 1-11-1951 to the Charles Greenblatt Co., New York City, NY. Thanks for looking and please share if you know of an earlier gun.

Not only early but gorgeous! Also has the very thin early hammer spur. Sorry, I don't have a 44 serial # data base.

Chad, I have a note in my files that .44 Target S78575 was shipped in Dec. 1950.
The note is from a response Roy sent to a ship date request in Aug. 2008. In Mar. 2006 he responded to a ship date request on the same serial number as being shipped in Feb. 1951. Take your choice! Ed.

Ed, I see in the data base that S 78585 is recorded as being shipped 12/00/51. I guess we have three dates to choose from. Thanks for sharing the info.

Chad,

Your Model of 1950 44 Target is simply outstanding.

Here's #78528. It looks a whole lot like yours. :D

Yours is a little nicer than mine! My serial number about 75,000 I think. Will check next time I unlock safe. Thanks for posting.

Dave, I would love to know the ship date on your gun. Let us know if you ever request it from Roy Jinks. Thanks.

Chad

I've requested the shipping date from Mr. Jinks. Somehow believe it will come back as June 18, 1951, with the gun being delivered to Momsen - Dunnegan - Ryan Co., El Paso, Texas.

How do I know? Because I lettered my 4" Model of 1950 but provided my 6.5" Model of 1950's serial number. :o

HOW DUMB IS THAT?????

Dave, Thanks for letting us know. Look on the bright side....maybe the letter for your 4 inch will be more interesting this time.

Chad

I had S78599 in my collection for quite a few years. It was shipped on April 17, 1951 and it one of the early guns with a 5-inch barrel.

That's a great early gun and I love the condition. Congrats on the acquisition and excellent pictures.

Chad,

I have a pre-24 that came in a gold box originally for a third model. The box was stickered for a 4th Model. I have the high-grade pre-24 and a shooter grade that has 2 nasty pits. Both guns have magna stocks.

I have a pre-26 that is in a box exactly like your stamped over box.

My serial numbers are all buried in my PC somewhere after it had to be deloused.
