FIRST BLT!!

Here in the PNW the tomatoes are coming on. Picked my first slicer today. Thick cut pepper bacon slow cooked. On honey oat nut bread, lightly toasted with some mayo. INCREDIBLE!!
It would be even better if that wet, sloppy tomato was left out.:D:D:D

I don't eat raw tomatoes! Except about once a year I'll have a home grown, vine ripe tomato on a BLT. This year we've been eating it on Dave's 21 seed bread, and it will be lightly toasted.

I don't want to start a "Mayonnaise War", but I'll be using the olive oil verity of Mirical Whip. (It's one of my few concessions to getting old enough to remember New Cars without seatbelts!)

Now, will that be 3, 4, or 5 pieces of bacon?

Ivan

Mmmmmmmm, BLT's!

I'm jealous and can't wait for fresh Michigan tomatoes and sweet corn. Our garden tomatoes are still green and pretty small, but the local farm stand should be opening in the next few weeks. These are the farm "seconds" from a couple years ago.

In the summer I will get those tomato sores in my mouth from eating any and all I see

I love walking by the tomato plant and just picking one and eating it. The small cherry tomato I just stand there and pick and eat. Not many of the cherry tomato make it in the house.

Make mine Cherry Tomatoes. Love those BLTs made with Dukes Mayo.

Believe it or not.....

We have a local Jersey Mike's that makes a dynamite BLT with surprisingly great tomatoes.

,

That J Mike’s is one of my favorite places in MaConGa!

Wife and I picked these this morning right after we moved the cows. Nothing like fresh Georgia produce this time of year. I have had peaches, boiled peanuts, tomatoes, watermelon, sweet corn, peas, and various peppers in the last couple of weeks.

Mine are ending their productive cycle. Too hot to set new fruit. Had a BLT for breakfast this morning. Mexican tomatoes are usually available in our area, but they are hollow, and have no flavor. Nothing beats a vine ripe tomato.

I'm jealous! My tomaters are D O N E. Literally. they can't hang in triple digit temps. you can water the roots all you want but the tops will still burn up.

I had a good go of it till then. Sigh.....

When I lived in Iowa as a young single cop, I swear there was a BBQ 3-4 times a week. Sweet corn and tomatoes for sale on every country road on the edge of town. 10 ears for a buck. Tomatoes about 3 for a dollar, huge Beefmaster ones. Soak those ears and throw them on the grill. Keep the margaritas going . A keg of beer was 32.00 to us local cops. Three of us new hires from out of town 20,21,22 rented a brand new 3 bed 3.5 bath full basement home some lawyer built for his new wife. Only to find out that she would not move from DesMoines. $350. per month. Party Central, we survived on meat, corn and tomatoes. Lots of venison and pheasants. Funny thing the neighbors loved us, we would babysit their kids, shovel their driveways etc. Four years later one of the guys got married. It just wasn't the same. So one winter afternoon watching Adam-12. We got on the phone and both went to LA. Missed the corn and tomatoes. Missed the big corn and bean fed deer and pheasants. Missed being able to leave 15 minutes before work and still be dressed and seated for rollcall. Big cities are not all they are cranked up to be.

Those that stayed are every bit as happy and well off as us who left.
Sorry guys those darn tomatoes brought back a lot of memories.

When I bought my first house in Spokane, Wa, the previous owner had grown beefsteak tomatoes in the backyard. I was never much of a tomato person, the texture was all wrong and they just didn't look right inside, but those tomatoes were the best I've ever had. The plants grew back every spring and produced so many tomatoes I took bags of them in to give to the troops. They loved them also and snatched them up.
