first coyote kill with Performance Center M&P 15-22

when did the 5 year running open season on squirrel end

I guess things have changed since I left there in the late 70's. In those days there was a season and people actually rented "squirrel leases" like they did with deer - at least in East Texas.

ow yeah them days are long gone i remember when it was like that too

Actually, around here, Deer are so thick, coyotes bothering them, doesn't bother me.

In kansas, you can get Deer nuisance permits to shoot deer, and leave them lay. They cannot be eaten or otherwise touched.

We have the permits too but we can do what ever we want with the carcass. Leaving them lay increases the coyote population, free meal with no work.

Exactly, free meal, just sit and wait. Easy pickens.

Regardless if I can see a coyote out my window one two shot three. Hell if I see a stray rottweiler in my yard I'm putting it down , digging a hole and acting like it never happened. Lost my prized husky dog to a group of rotts when I was 21 lost 2 cats to a stray cat so anything really that moves that has intent on crossing into my yard is dead. Period when I was 11 I had that some rottweiler chasing me down my driveway who knew ten years later he would eat my lead with a 12 gauge at 10 ft.

Also who cares how many shots as long as it dies

i feel u on the stray dogs as well,,, i live in the country down a dead end road and there is no one to call about them,,,, and people just love to ditch there pets out here:mad:

but i still care about making a clean and humane kill, im not into torchering animals or watching them suffer:confused:. if at all possible over kill is better than just killing;)

if the sun was up that coyote would have got a Winchester silver tipped 150g ballistic tip from a 26" barred 30.06:eek:,,,, over kill,,, yes,,, but dead in seconds

The dogs I shot were my neighbors after my incident court court and lawsuit. They paid my court costs and I got there other 7 rotts taken away after the testimony of 5 other neighbors loosing animals. I know there is a difference between a coyote and a human but that coyote wouldn't do a humane kill to my dog. I'm not sick to the point I'm going to watch it suffer. I grew up raised in farm country when we my grandpa 86 had to put down an animal pet or livestock he gave it a shot right between the eyes. Just the way I was raised I guess.

I had to put a horse down once, broke its leg. Tried to get a vet to come out, to no avail. Had two of them tell me to shoot it, quicker and cheaper. Said draw an X between the eyes and ears, shoot at the intersecting point. It was hard to do, but it was quick.

Life growing up on a farm is a far cry from the city life. If a person hasn't ever experienced it, its hard to imagine the ways.

No I am not against shooting coyotes but have only shot one with a .22 rimfire. It was a 50 yrd shot where the coyote stood on the skyline of a pretty steep hill and I knew I made a good shot just behind the front shoulder. But by the time I hiked to the top of the hill " no coyote " could I find in the sagebrush and believe me I looked. Of course a .22 rimfire won't leave much if any blood trail so that didn't help me find it either.

So a .22 rimfire just isn't my gun/ammo of choice for shooting coyotes and now use something with more poop when shooting coyotes as I don't want a wounded animal running around out there either. And not to say others can't anchor these animals with one shot from a .22 rimfire.

Good shootin.

yeah i understand that as well,,, when i see them in the day i use my 30.06 but that's pretty messy as it leave about a soft ball size or bigger exit wound but trust me there not going any where after that,,, after i get my suppressor ill use the 30.06 at night as it wont wake up the entire world lol

if u ever heard a 30.06 fired with a muzzle brake on it u would know why i say its far to loud

it is odd about you shot,, if placed where u say its still possible to miss the heart but even a lung shot the yote couldn't have went far.

im really not trying to be rude at all but are u sure the shot was true, im mean that's just odd cause i have dropped many with my old 10-22.

believe it or not the .22lr is pretty deadly when the shooter/rifle combo is accurate, just like deer hunting with a .223 shot placement is key.

.22lr can and will drop deer, hog, and many other large animals.
younger and stupid i got in some trouble for killing a deer with a .22lr not knowing it was illegal. the 8 point dropped right in its tracks with a well placed head shot. i have also killed several hogs with .22lr and one gator.

.22lr has also been used in many murders as well so it can be fatal to people as well and many military's have used .22lr

most people don't fully grasp that the .22lr from a rifle isnt just some over sized pellet gun,,, its a deadly weapon and will kill just about any thing u put in front of it.

now from a pistol its not to bad but just this year and elderly woman killed a home intruder with a .22lr pistol so even that can be deadly
