Just finished some handloading a little while ago and used my first 100 Ginex small pistol primers using a LEE AutoPrime. Some history: I'm one of those guys who liked loading S&B 9 x 19mm cases that many didn't like because of the tight primer pockets. We all know that primer pockets expand over time, so it just wasn't an issue for me. I mention this because I've seen similar statements about the Ginex primers fitting tightly. I segregate 9mm cases into 3 categories: Thick, Thin and Winchester Type which includes the older style R-P, SPEER and Federal. I loaded 100 total with the thicker cases including some S&B, new style R-P, Aguila (which vary in thickness), PMC and others that aren't too thick like PPU and CBC. I had absolutely no problems, and I like the fit, but again, using the handheld LEE AutoPrime. YMMV with a progressive. Next will be the range test with the 124 gr. JHP (1.132”/28.75mm OACL) we use for Range loads because in a pinch, they could be pressed into service for defense. These loads are charged with some W572 I have remaining, but I'd already planned on a .1 gr. Powder charge increase where previously 10 rounds (with CCI500s) chrono'd 1140 FPS with an ES of 32 and an SD of 9. My suspicion is that W572 is wanting a bit higher charge to improve standard deviation. 9 is not bad, so we'll see if it improves, and our range loads average around 1155 FPS. I also made a box of 50 with the .1 gr. Powder charge increase but with CCI500s for direct comparison.

Using the RCBS Universal hand primer I did notice the need for a bit more effort priming some 9mm cases: notably that any CBCs or any with crimped primer pockets needed to be 1st swaged or drilled. Maybe one in 200 of the first thousand went in askew and needed to be replaced. These were all cases that had been wet tumbled with SS pins, BTW.

As for performance, so far I have yet to have one properly seated Ginex primer fail to fire... I am more than satisfied with them.

Cheers!

P.S. I actually (finally?) realized that the RCBS had never been disassembled and cleaned (after perhaps 10 to 12K uses!): I was a bit surprised to see how much caked on residue was coating the ball & socket pieces, the shaft and the body. After a total disassembly and cleaning the RCBS operated just as new. The residue from many different primer compounds took quite a bit of cleaning and polishing to completely remove, but it was well worth it! It will be a once per year exercise from now on.

My experience with Ginex SPP is a little different. I bought my first box about 2 years ago. All were fine, seated easily, and all went bang. Two months ago, I bought a sleeve of 5000. I loaded 100 9mm and 100 .38s a couple weeks ago, but haven't shot them yet. The 9mms were difficult to seat in Blazer brass and my Rockchucker. I really had to pull the up stroke to get them flush. I had a similar or worse issue with my .38 Starline brass, so I switched to Federal brass which were pretty worn. All of my primer pockets were previously uniformed and I used a crimp remover to put a slight bevel at the lip. I do not have a problem seating Federal or CCIs, although Winchester take a little more effort. I haven't measured the Ginex, but my guess is that they are a couple thousandth taller than other primers. The good news is that I still have 4800 left.

Next batch of 100

Just finished loading another 100, and this time in nickel cases for a little variety with everything else remaining the same as yesterday. First primer seemed snug, so dummy says (the AutoPrime operator) it'll go, it's just tight. Well, it didn't go, so I ruined my first primer in some time. Probably an alignment issue, and of course, I was the AutoPrime operator. The other 99 were as smooth as butter! Next stop . . . the range, although likely next week.
I mentioned him in another thread, but I'll add a link here for an enterprising young man and former Marine; because there are Ex-Marines. He did a fairly thorough test with Ginex small rifle primers in 5.56mm NATO/.223 Rem - not sure what data he uses – but it was another motivating factor for me in deciding to try the SPPs. More to follow!

Ginex Small RIfle Primer Review

I found some online but the Hazmat fee put the price for 2 bricks slightly over $200.

If I can find them locally I try 'em.

Looking forward to the range report.

I can understand some trepidation without having tried them, but that's not a bad price right now if it includes shipping also.

Capital Cartridge has them at $425 for a case, shipped. They all go bang and load easily with my Lee hand primer. (round tray) Only problem I have is on my Dillon square deal. For some reason quite a few mis feed, either side ways or two drop down. Can’t figure that out, all other brands work fine so it’s not the press.

$210.40
$30 hazmat, $20.42 shipping

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that the first one I crushed was on me and not having the case properly aligned in the AutoPrime. Done it before, just not in a while. No problem with the 99 that followed. The case were nickel, mostly SPEER and R-P but there were others mixed in that probably accounted for any slight difference I felt. I look forward to testing them against other established loads. Counting W572, I have 3 variations of the same/load velocity with the others being True Blue and Silhouette at around 1155 FPS.

Good luck with those new primers.

I saw a link on the net with a XD 4.5" with a Delta JHP , OAL 1.095".....

w572 , 5.4 gr at 1170fp
w572 , 5.8 gr at 1235fps

It went higher but most plated bullets are rated at 1250 and I shoot target loads, 96% of the time.

Your 1.132" OAL has plenty of wiggle room, c/o pressures, and is close to many factory loads.
98% of the time I set the 124 gr. JHP at 1.12" (Gold Dot) but will set others at
just 1.195" OAL, with w231 or other powders to get them at their maximum fps
that is still within the pressure limits for my pistols.

Have fun.

Thanks Nevada Ed! And LOL! I know where you found that data. Was going to post a link to the site for you until I noticed the loads are identical. The 124 gr. PD JHP that he prefers is definitely a Jacketed bullet with a near identical shape to the 124 gr. XTP. Not constructed as well though and requires a short OACL like the XTP. I water tested it several years ago and would have to look up the load/test in my chrono log, and probably used Silhouette, but I didn't push it as fast as he did. I got jacket/core separation in my test, so I haven't used any since then. Accurate enough though. W572 has velocity potential that hasn't been tapped into yet, and from the loads I've made, I'd definitely say it has +P capability, and probably is at 1235 FPS and a 1.095" OACL.

1.132" and the 124 gr. JHP we use that has a nice and slender, rounded ogive, works in several pistols between me and my shooting partner which sounds nicer than saying my "former brother-in-law." I just recently finished a custom that started out as a SAR 2000 Stainless. Now has a better D.Action from half-cock than many revolvers. Only CZ 75 variant available today in stainless steel. Here's a pic of what it started out as.

I ordered a case of Ginex SPP primers tonight from KR Armory. I'm not near out but I don't want to run out either. Of course they are higher priced than I've ever paid but it doesn't look like they are coming down as I've been holding out for a good long while for the price to drop and it seems to be if anything creeping back up a bit. Thanks for the reviews on this primer brand. Beggars can't be choosers this day and time.
