1959. I was 6 years old and mom walked me down to the village square to a matinee showing of Bambi. I remember being excited and taken in by the lights, colors and smells of the lobby. Mom got me a bag of Jelly Babies.
I was dumbstruck by the wide screen. Among the reasons that this stuck with me was how worked up I got when Bambi's mother died and when the forest caught fire. Bambi's father led them all to safety so that ended well. Add to that mom trying to explain what "twitterpation" was and it was a lot for a little kid to absorb.
I have made it a point to have my kids and grandkids see it to share a little piece of me with them. I recently showed it to JR and halfway through he said: " can I watch Lego Bat man?" Oh, well.
Do you remember your first movie?
