Hello i am quite new to the pistol world as an early birthday present to myself i found myself a nice new Sd40 in a local shop and instantly fell in love with it was wondering if anyone has suggestions as to future parts
I may want to look into or any helpful information or tips. I put my first 50 rounds through it last weekend and am very happy with my purchase

Thanks,

congrats on your purchase, i also have the sd40ve. i would recommend getting a lot of range time, learning the proper mechanics of shooting and mastering the trigger pull. the trigger on the SD has made me a better shooter when i use my M&P 9. you will find a lot of great info on this forum. some will recommend the apex spring kit to reduce the trigger pull, others will recommend night sights. i would recommend getting ammo and practice, practice, practice. welcome and you won't be disappointed with your new weapon.

What are the differences between the sd40 and sd40ve?

I think it is fine as it comes. Spend your money on extra high (standard) capacity magazines, ammo and good holsters. You should have a range holster and a couple of good CCW holsters. The only other thing you need is another SD40. Following the advice of Skeeter Skelton's friend, Col. Evan Quiros, it is good to have two of any gun you really like.

+1 to that.

It turns out I was an "OK" pistol shot before and relatively happy with that (I'm more of a longarms aficionado) - but the SD40VE threw every heretofore unencountered challenge at me all at once - the snappiness of the .40, the feather weight, and the massive "defense" trigger.

I loved it, I hated it, I thought something was wrong with it, I considered trading it... but all the while just kept plugging away and introducing new skills every time. It's very unforgiving, but as it turns out, in a good way. Don't get me wrong. You're not going to miss center mass with it after even rudimentary practice - it's a fine self defense weapon, but it was a good 10-12 trips to the range for me, studying technique every time before I was putting 5-6 out of 7 (half mag groups) into the same hole or a 1" circle at 21 feet.

And now when I pick up another gun - a 1911 or whatnot, I've gone from "OK shot" to full on badass thanks to that gun all those people hate so much.

That being said... Once I felt comfortable with it, I jumped on the Apex trigger kit and absolutely love that. But I'd get proficient with it as-is before modifying it.
