First Post and First AR-15; Fin Grip and Magazine Questions

I have the Sparrow Dynamics grip, and find that it is easier to use than the fin grip style. It allows me to keep the web between my thumb and trigger finger above the trigger- makes it legal.

Another option that hasn't been mentioned, is going fixed mag. In that case the upper and lower have to be separated before the mag can be dropped.

Hi,

Tomorrow, I plan to buy an MP ii sport.

I'm in California, which requires S&W to install a fin to the pistol grip (see photo). When I was in the LGS a couple weeks back trying it out, I found that fin awkward to grip. They showed me a compliant aftermarket buttstock/grip, but wanted something like $150 for it, installed, which seems expensive. Can anyone recommend a California-compliant grip? Do vendors certify these as California-compliant? How difficult would it be for me to change it out?

Also, I'm limited to 10 round magazines. What brands/models and vendors would you recommend?

Thanks!

In California we have two options to keep an Ar15 compliant under state law.
Featureless.
Removes the "Scary" features.
Flash Suppressor gets traded for a muzzle brake or a thread protector, Adjustable stocks get a locking pin or an A2 style fixed stock, And the Fin grip we all just love replaces the standard pistol grip.
However awkward this feels it does keep normal magazine function and failures are easy to clear. FTE or FTF
Failure to eject, Failure to Fire.
Push the button, Drop the magazine, Pull charging handle to clear weapon.

Then we have the other option.
Locked Magazine.
This gives you back all the "Scary" bits. Flash suppressor, Adjustable stock, Pistol Grip.
However.
Of the 5 kits that let you operate the weapon this way they all suck when you need to clear the gun. You can't drop the magazine without cracking the action and you can't do that unless the bolt is fully forward. Makes clearing the gun challenging to say the least.

I have them set up both ways and have grown accustomed to the Fin.
I'm using the Juggernaut Hell fighter kit on the locked magazine rifle

Any quality AR, to include the S&W M&P15 will fire brass and steel-case ammo reliably. Just keep your weapon clean, especially the chamber. I’ve never been one of those guys who doesn’t keep his weapons clean, Uncle Sam taught me right.
