First range trip with new FS M&P 9mm

Range trip 1-31-2015

Shot 86 rounds (of the 102 rounds loaded) of the 125 gr. LRN reloads through the M&P 9 today with no issues. At 7 yards I put the first 21 rounds into a group 2" x 2 1/4". Makes a nice general range load.
Total round count 421.

Range trip 2-7-2015

Shot another 60 rounds of the 125 gr. LRN reloads through the M&P 9.

2 targets-30 rounds each. Target #1 nicely centered 2 1/4" x 2 1/4"
Target #2 blew out the center with a nice 1" x 2" group.
7 yards off hand. Total round count 481.

With almost 500 rounds and no issues, I'm starting to feel confident enough that I could put the M&P 9 into rotation with the SD9VE and Ruger SR1911. I don't carry anything that I'm not 100% positive will feed/fire/function with every pull of the trigger. So far, all of my pistols have proven themselves at the range.

Valentines Day range trip :-)

Fired 100 rounds of the 125 gr. LRN/Red Dot load through the M&P 9.
As usual, no issues, accurate and had fun. Blew out the center of the B-24 target with 60 rounds, then shot 40 rounds at an orange dot on a standard target. Round count now over 500, at 581 total rounds with no issues at all. I think it's time to put her into rotation, so next trip to the local shop, I'll pick up a few more boxes of the Winchester Defense 147 gr. JHP ammo that I'm now carrying in the SD9ve.

Range trip today 3-7-2015

Another 50 rounds of 125 gr. LRN reloads. This has been a good, consistent range load and I enjoy shooting it through the M&P.
Total round count now 631 with no issues :-)

Range trip today 3-21-2015

Haven't shot either of my 9's the past few weeks, so today I fired another 50 rounds of the 125 gr. LRN reloads through the M&P 9.
For a general purpose plinking/range load, this is just fun to shoot! 50 rounds = big hole in target :-)

Total round count now 681...

It sounds like it is time to start stretching the distance on your LRN handloads to see what they can do. By now, your M&P should be a little more user-friendly than when it came out of the box. Give it a try at 25 yards and let us know how it goes? Any time you say "one big hole," I say, "not far enough!" :)

The indoor range only goes to 50', so I'm limited there. Now that the weather is getting nicer, I might see what I can do at the outdoor range :)

Nice job MyDads38!
We find the M&P's to be very reliable guns. They are what convinced the darling husband that "plastic" guns can be good, enjoyable guns. This is huge since he is/was a 1911 fan boy. lol
We do have a new "1911" in the house, (a Sig p938, I got it for a lighter weight carry gun). He was impressed with how it shot right out of the box (after it's first cleaning, of course). It is too small for his hands, but he was impressed. I don't think he would give up his M&P's any time soon though. lol

I know just how he feels, all my guns until 8-2-2014 were all steel; never thought I'd own a poly gun-now I have 5!

My Ruger SR1911 and 4" HB Model 10 are the only steel guns I have left and I won't part with either of those. Never thought I'd go polymer and never thought of owning a 40 S&W-guess you never know :D At least they're all S&W :)

Range trip 4-4-2015

Another 50 rounds 125 gr. LRN reloads through the M&P 9. Total round count 731.

I'm really liking my M&Ps and my SDs too! :-) My 1911 is feeling neglected....

Only have a 100 through mine. First round I shot I yanked the trigger so hard I was a good 5-6 inches low. It was not my 4 pound 1911 trigger pull. Did some work on the trigger and it is much smoother now

Try this. Shoot 3 holes in your target from 3 yards. 1 in the head 1 upper chest and 1 mid chest. Now pick up 3 spent casing and push them through the holes with the spent primer facing you. Start at 3 yards and try to shoot out the piece of brass. Once you do this at 3 yards push it back to 5 and further. I use this drill when I am teaching shooters the importance of sight alignment and trigger press.

P.S. No live rounds please

Range trip 4-18-2015

50 rounds of REM-UMC Green & White box 115 gr. FMJ ammo. Went shooting with a guy from work who brought his Ruger Redhawk & Super Blackhawk 44 Mags. Been quite a few years since I shot a 44 Mag, now I remember why I only shot 40 rounds/month in IHMSA competition! LOL And that's why I get so much enjoyment from shooting non-magnum calibers these days! :-)

Total round count 831

Indoor range today, since it was 47 degrees and raining in my part of Indiana! 50 rounds REM-UMC green & white box; again no issues and one of the best groups/targets I've shot so far with the M&P. Nice, tight 1 1/2" centered group @ 7 yards (all 50 rounds).

One thing I did today, I changed from the Medium back strap to the Large. I noticed the pad of my index finger stayed centered on the trigger. I guess sometimes, change IS good! :-)

Total round count now 881

Went shooting with a buddy and his brother. Was sighting in a Savage AXIS 223 rifle. Buddy shot his SS Ruger Mini-14 and I shot a few rounds through my neglected Bushmaster Patrolman's Carbine.

Then we shot his Beretta 92FS and my M&P 9mm. Good time had by all :-) Round count now 931.

its easy to watch that round count climb lol. I realized i have over 1500 on my 9c in less than a year, and ran the 140 rounds thru my new fs9 recently in its first range trip.

Good thing a Cabelas opened here last week and had some decent ammo sales.... had to restock for my next range visit. But will have to make sure my Buckmark gets plenty of play time as well.

;)

I am having a hard time getting my round count up on any single gun since I have bought 6 so far this year. I go to the indoor range 4 or 5 times a week and been trying to shoot them all.

Range trip 5-9-2015

Well, it's official-1,000 + rounds now through my M&P 9mm with no issues at all! 50 rounds Federal Aluminum 115 gr. FMJ + 20 rounds REM-UMC 115 gr. FMJ today = 1,001 total round count.

Got the gun out of layaway Dec. 22, 2014 in time to lock it up in the safe until back from Chicago from Christmas visit with my fiancé's family. First range trip was 12-27-2014, so in just over 4 months I have logged 1,001 rounds WITHOUT ANY FAILURES OF ANY KIND!

I really enjoy my M&P pistols (9mm, 40 S&W & 45acp). All Full Size and all Stock from factory. Same goes for my SD9VE & SD40VE. Am I a "fanboy" for S&W? Yeah, guess I am; have been since Wheel Guns were the big thing! LOL

I have to say, I feel I'm pretty lucky that I've had no issues with any of my pistols. I don't abuse them (though all of them are dirty and need cleaned), lube them per specs and only run standard spec ammo through all of them. If I were a LEO, I would be happy to carry any of them as my duty weapon. And BTW, I appreciate all of you members who let me add to my threads, usually weekly; and I really enjoy the comments left as well. Thank you :-)

Another 50 rounds REM-UMC 115 gr. FMJ with no issues. Really had a good day at the indoor range today! :-)

Range trip 6-27-2015

I hate when life gets in the way and keeps me from going shooting :-(

Made the time/effort to go to the indoor range for a few hours this afternoon. Another 50 rounds of WWB 115 gr. FMJ through the M&P 9mm; sure felt good to put some rounds down range! :-)

Went to a gun show in Muncie, IN prior and saw new Shields in 9mm and 40 S&W for $379, but I kept my wallet/checkbook/credit card in my pocket and was a good boy today :-) Powder/Primer prices still a little high, but guns in general seem to be coming down. Passed on a couple of deals on 40 S&W and 45 acp brass, but that's okay; I'm good for right now. Next few months will keep me from buying any toys or accessories, but need to get back to my weekly range trips-if I can.

Oh, and total round count now 1,101.
