First Revolver

Nice. I'm "Old-School" (Vietnam) and love all old "Smiths". If you can find some correct original grips, I would recommend you purchase. Original grips look great and will add to your revolvers overall value (my opinion).

Congrats on a great present. You will love the N frame
is but they are addicting. A 4 inch M27 is on my wish list. If the wife likes to shoot but closes her eye maybe she is a bit recoil shy. A nice K22 for her birthday will help with that.

Great start, congrats!

My first S&W revolver was a model 27 also.

That led to my current count of five N-fames, one model 19, and four model 36s.

It's an addiction, I tell ya...

I can do that for sure. She closes her eyes a bit when shooting, working on it, she asked for something with less of a bang. So the plan is to get her a little .22 so she can work up slowly. When I can get her not to close her eyes when shooting my 9mm she's got pretty good grouping. So I'm due time!

Shooting light .38 Special loads will help her a lot.
I personally have no use for shooting full-powered .357 loads in a revolver.
Shooting them in a rifle is a whole different story.

She might be fine with shooting .38 Spl. from your .357.

My better half came from a family that did not own firearms.. started her shooting my target rifles (22), moved on the the evil black rifle and finally pistols. She really enjoyed the mid 50's K22. Finally she wanted something to have at hand when I was on the road or out elk hunting. I knew I had her. She now owns two that she is responsible for cleaning and caring for. Her current fav isn't a wheel gun, but the M&P compact 22 and she is amazingly accurate with it.

Load some 125 grain bullets in 38 special cases and your wife should be fine.

My birthday is next weekend and my better half had consistently asked me what I wanted. I threw some random things out there and she asked me what I wanted the most. I've always wanted a revolver since first shooting once some 10 odd years ago and I specifically wanted a Smith and Wesson .357, so we set out searching last weekend.

I ended up with this 27-3 4" from 1985. It's not in pristine shape, but I'm also not a collector. Wanted something I would enjoy for years to come. Can't wait to get out and shoot it this weekend. Now to find some .357 ammo locally. That may prove more difficult in these parts though.

Good for you, a birthday present you really like, good on your wife.

Unfortunately, I can't say "Start reloading" as components can be very hard to find. One would think things would get better in that regard but it doesn't seem to be happening. Don

That is a GREAT gift. My wife bought me a 38 special model 64-5. I wanted a 38 though. Congratulations on your 27.... That made me happy to read your post. You will enjoy it for many many years
