first time out with the 500

hi guys this site rocks... so first time out with the monster 500 8 3/8 comp barrel. here are a few pics my wife took. wow after 40 rounds of 500 gr bullets my hand was done lol.

You are quickly discovering the two main reasons to reload the .500: cost of ammo and avoiding making your doctor's Porche payments. It is ok to shoot reduced loads in the .500.

I reload a lot of other rounds. I am already ordering the die set and components. I do want to shot one 700 gr for giggles...

Wow! It doubles as a flamethrower better than shooting .357s out of my Model 60!

yep...great round...so far with my 7.5"from the performance center i have taken a 4-horn ram (largest taken in 2010 with a handgun) a merino ram (tied for 3rd largest with a handgun) a bronze medal mouflon ram and a number of boars....lots of fun but....reload

Yes please try the 700grn bullets, its a real beast, if you reload try lilgun or 2400......

I'm proud of you for making it to 40 rounds...I don't think I woulda made it that far! 454 Casull is the hottest round I've shot and it was more than enough for me! Those 500s do look pretty cool though!

I only made it 10 rounds of full house 454 out of a Super Somethinghawk before retiring and I am fairly acclimated to shooting elephant rifles. That junk would not group even for some shooters way better than me. I traded it for my Smith 500 that I have not been to the range with yet, but I am expecting much better groups. It was so cute I had to buy a 460V to match. Forty rounds of factory 500 sounds pretty impressive to me.
