Bought a tip up in 38 S&W, auto shell extractor, Serial number 465002, I believe, barrel is 4" sights are fixed, has a strain screw. Looks like the but was relieved for a swivel but none is installed. No screws, they all seem to be pins, with the exception of the hammer, exposed, pivot and the break pivot. Have pics, going to try and add them in. Bear with me, newbie and older!

Welcome to the Forum. You actually have a top-break revolver. Tip-ups are the earliest revolvers made by S&W, as the barrel was hinged on the top and they tipped up. Your revolver is a 38 Double action, Fourth Model, shipped from the factory around 1905 or 1906.

I am pretty sure that those walnut stocks were from a larger K frame hand ejector revolver from the teens and worked over to fit the smaller 38 DA frame. The originals would have almost always have been black hard rubber diamond checkered stocks.

Thank you Gary. Learning. One thing I used to know was not to buy when I don't know, but learned that lesson again. Ah well, nothing major.
