Five Card Stud

“The name of the game is Five Card Stud.”

Old western movie starring Dean Martin and Robert Mitchum and a lot of shooting with handguns. In fact I saw the stars using three different ones.

First we have the traditional Colt style SAA. Towards the end of the movie there is a closeup of Mitchum reloading it.

Then there are the revolvers with swing out cylinders used by both of them. In one scene I distinctly saw the S&W style cylinder thumb release.

And then there was the revolver with a ejector rod housing on the barrel and a swing out cylinder.

I will both actors credit for delivering their lines when reloading their revolvers.

It was a common practice in Westerns,
especially when fast shots were called
for.

In "Shane" Ladd used a Colt Police Positive
to take out Palance. Happens so fast and
with excellent film editing you don't notice.

In "Hombre" Newman used a Colt
1917 in the final shooting. Before the
shooting, he'd been carrying a SAA.

Plenty more examples could be cited going
back tothe eilent era of Westerns.

Do you want accuracy or good entertainment? Hollywood can not seem to be able to do both for the most part. Yes, there are a few that are correct, but the are few and far between!

I once drew a jack in the middle of a Royal Straight Flush on a macine at a Vegas bar.. I won $200. If I-d been betting $1.25 I would have won $2200

Yes, it is sad she died young (age 36). She committed suicide. Sad that she could not figure out her problems in another way.

I didn't notice that shocking and horrendous blunder, but if I had, it wouldn't have taken away from a pretty good (certainly not excellent) western.

A better western than some from that era. lot twist was different!
