Flaky MIM Hammer. Literally...

Anybody had this happen? Model 625JM. It looks like rust underneath the plating. Don't know if it is or do they flash copper plate (or something else) before the chrome.
Curious as to the process they use for the the finish on the hammer.

Damned locks!!!! That's what has caused the flaking..... (everything else gets blamed on the lock doesn't it???)

I didn't even know they HAD plating!!! DUH......
 
They are hard chromed. Thats a particular thickness plated directly over the steel.

Send it back, or call, maybe they'll send you another hammer?
 
Actually it's already been back. They sent me a shipping label and I sent it in. They replaced the hammer and then I had them send it over to the Performance Center while they had it for an master action job. So I basically got a free shipping both ways for the action job. They did a fine job too. Very light and smooth DA stroke.

I posted to see if others were having similar problems.
