I see this trend was posted before by someone but there wasnt a good answer. When you install a keniti tec barral shroud. do you use the existing washer or not. Thanks.

If you need to "time" the shroud (like if there was writing you wanted indexed in a
certain location) the best method would be a "Peel Washer" it's a laminated washer
that you heat with a lighter and it allows you to peel off thin layers.

One Caveat.. are sharp and will easily slice you wide open!

i went a little over the top to get the Spikes shroud writing

straight at 90 deg from top rail:oi i made a thicker alloy

spacer,as i wanted to retain the plastic spider on the end of

the hand guard....then i faced the end of the shroud to get the

end of the barrel flush with the shroud

The common opinion about re-using a crush washer is...DONT. They are designed to crush once and if used again can weld themselves to the barrel and not give the crush effect you desire. I know of many cases where they have been re-used without incident. A new washer will crush close to a complete turn but you better have the barrel in a vise and locked down tight. I buy a half dozen and mic their width where I can use one that will take about a quarter to third turn to correctly time. New washers are rarely the same width.
