Ninja....not in this lifetime! All I'm saying is I've seen what a knife can do...was it againt a gang...nope....!t was fast & bloody in Miami.I'm an old guy but I carry my S&W 351 most of the time!Steve in Vermont

Most of these mobs, and groups who hold up stores, are comprised of followers. There are, however, leaders who are vicious little perps who need to be shot. Not stuck with a knife, not hit with a bat, shot as in 3 in the X ring. Many people in our society understand this hard fact but, being "politically correct", they can't say it in public. I know that while employed as a "public servant" I would have been fired for this making this statement. It's good to be retired, they can't fire you from it.

I took a CC class to get my Utah permit and there was a statistic that within 21 feet a knife was more dangerous than a gun....
I believe a knife would be an awesome weapon.... I got my black belt a couple years ago and we trained to defend against knife attacks. We used real knives, and they were really sharp, using a real weapon increases the intensity and realism. Believe me, we were focused! But one guy made a block as an instructor came at him and he slid his arm down (bad) and swiped across the knife. The amount of blood that came out was pretty scary, and the length of the wound was unreal. Luckily the instructor pulled back, or I think most of his arm would be opened in one quick swipe.
That lesson reinforced (to me at least) the number one rule of self defense. Run if the option exists!!!

Insofar as most of the violent flash mobs are composed of black youth, I doubt if Eric Holder's DOJ would be happy with some white/hispanic/oriental citizen that defended himself with deadly force. I also think that our community organizer in chief would deplore racist whites killing innocent black teens, and probably see that they were prosecuted. Various police forces, seem to be handling the problem with kid gloves. Is this because of who is running the country? One more reason to change the regime in 2012.

I don't know about where you live, but around here, nobody, Black, White, Hispanic, Asian or Klingon for that matter gives a ****. We hate armed robbers and when necessary, shoot them. In fact one of the first notable fatal shootings of an attempted robber here after the passage of shall issue CCW was by a Black man. The mutant family and "posse" of the deceased robber, Arthur Buford, expected indignation by the community. Instead, pretty much everybody told them in so many words, "Don't want to get shot? Don't try to rob people." The dead moron's pals then vandalized the victim's home, whereupon it got around the clock protection from the NAACP AND off duty Cleveland cops.
People in most of the country, regardless of background, have VERY little sympathy for violent robbers. They have no more regard for their enablers, in or out of government.

The term "Flash mob" was originally coined to describe a pre-planned gathering of individuals in a public place to perform a dance or some other non-violent bit of artistic expression. Unfortunately, the practice has morphed into an excuse to run amok as a legitimate "mob", usually engaging in illegal activity such as robbery or vandalism. Since these flash mobs now often occur in shopping malls, vigilance is key. No large group of teenagers bent on flash mobbing can be that discreet before all hell breaks loose. If I'm shopping, and see a significant number of teens streaming into my area, or milling about getting antsy, I am officially gone.
There is actually a TV commercial currently airing (I believe for a cell phone service) where a guy breaks out into a flash mob dance routine at Grand Central Station in NYC, only to find out that he's too early.

I guess you guys know about Sept 17th - A Day of Rage, that is supposed to take place in DC and all capitals. It might be a good day to pack an extra mag. Or stay home.

I'd never even heard of this "Day of Rage" stuff before reading your post. I followed the link you provided to see what the heck people are raging about now! It turns out that these particular ones are sick of seeing elections bought & paid for by (ANY) special interests with a wad of cash. (see: US Day of Rage - About) Also, they do specify "non-violent protests and assemblies of people to demand that integrity be restored to our elections." Is this really the type of gathering that would cause you to suggest carrying magnums or 00 buck??? I guess for some that will always be the ONLY answer...
Now, THESE types are a whole different animal.
All I'm saying is that maybe we should try to know who/what we're shooting at: they may not be enemies at all.

I wasn't too concerned about the mob things until a couple of events happened not far from here in Philadelphia, and out here in the suburbs, too.
Flash mobs are basically "funtime anarchy" for a generation that thinks or "knows" that what goes around never comes around.
There's no limit to where this kind of thing can go if the citizenry doesn't say "No" and back that declaration up.
The local flashmob events and their potential for spreading and intensifying especially in this political and economic climate has brought me back to carrying concealed full time.
It's getting so I don't feel safe anymore.
That's what really makes me mad at these idiots.
