Is it just me, or are there many more flies to pester us in August? They are such little monsters. Not to mention fruit flies too. Got my swatter ready. Death from above! Looking forward to some cold weather, freeze 'em out.

Yeah; seems that way here in Mississippi. I have just the solution, though. The Bug Assault weapon uses ordinary table salt to kill small to medium size flies up to 6 feet away. Pump action with automatic safety. Five airborne kills makes you an ace. Note: This is not a kid's toy and it shoots fairly hard at close range. A close shot to the face or eyes could do some damage. There is a written warning on the gun about this. It's just a heck of a lot of fun on a summer afternoon at the pool or patio. :)

I think the heat this summer killed most of ours.

What is truly bizarre is that my nighttime scorpion hunts in the yard have turned up nothing for a couple of weeks. Even before that I rarely found any after the spring 'I'm hungry' surge, and even that was down on previous years. Mind you, I have been hard on those buggers since moving here.

The Bug Assalt is a cool gun. I don't have the time to mess with that. I spray bug killer with Permethrin on the windows. The higher percentage of Permethrin, the better. All insects gravitate towards the light. The windows bring light into a room, so the bugs spend a lot of time on the windows. Doing only the windows limits the amount of bug spray needed, and keeps people and pets out of the poison, especially if only used at the top half of the window. All you have to do then is vacuum the bugs off the window sill and floor below the window occasionally.

For fruit flies, put some Apple Cider Vinegar in a cup or glass with a drop or 2 of Dawn liquid mixed in. The Dawn breaks up the surface tension on the vinegar (or water) and the flies get sucked in and drowned the second they touch it. The vinegar is totally safe and biodegradable.

Only problem with that is would kill all the little green tree frogs that show up too.

Cider vinegar with Dawn worked great indoors for the mini flies, MsNative bought a Rescue brand flytrap with refills that works scary well. Stinks to high heaven after a week so had to move it around and I swear it trapped every fly in the neighborhood.
Beginning to see a few around after a couple weeks so I'll reload soon.

Flies have evolved.....

Right now with our house guests, their four badly behaved big dogs, 6 (was 9) puppies and two cats and the doors constantly being open, the flies are HORRIBLE and we wage a constant battle. Since we have killed so many flies around here they have evolved into 'Super-Flies' (Not the movie). They are keenly intelligent and land in place where you can't swat them. If they land in the open near something, they'll sidle up to or under something you can't get to. They hide behind curtains, towels, appliances, toilets, ANYWHERE that you can't get to them. The second part is that that they've evolved PHYSICALLY as well, and are now made of vulcanized rubber. Sometimes they take several hits to do them in completely, or else they will fly off and aggravate you some more.

Sorry about the rant. But it's really been fly hell around here.:(:(

This trap by my deck works good. Kind of full right now.

Yes, they work remarkably well.
Gotta move it away to a far off point in the yard after a couple weeks. It's still working great but the wonky smell can be a bit much.
Get some more death use from it and hang a fresh one in the orig spot.
Cost about $6 e.

The same one sold for Yellow Jackets is a Dud however. at least the 2 I have had out there for a couple weeks.
