So you're using an M4 rear and an HK front?

Yes, my eye picks up and automatically centers the front much quicker than with the standard M4 type front sight.

Gas block height

The gas blocks for the S&W rifles are all receiver rail height.

I checked my M&P 10 & the gas block is lower than the receiver rail. I checked it with a precision Starrett straight edge. It's not much but I would say 1/16" or more.
