Ok, figured I'd follow up on my recent caliber decision post. (Was trying to decide between the M&P 15-22 Sport and the M&P 15 Sport).

As I mentioned in the other post, I went with the 15-22 for a number of reasons, not the least of which was ammo cost. My primary use for the rifle is range time, plinking, and shooting with the kids. Paid $379 out the door with tax and background check.

Anyway, I finally had a chance to get some shooting time in. Wow. Really, just wow. What an absolutely fun rifle to shoot! Loving it so far, and very, very happy with my decision. I found the sights to be pretty darn spot on out of the box at 50 yards, and not bad at 100 with obviously some slight elevation adjustment. I put maybe 500 rounds through it with zero issues. I ran Federal Automatch and Winchester Super X through it so far. I almost picked up a bucket of Remington Golden bullet, but hesitated as my local Dicks only had the 1400 round bucket and I'd rather try it out first before committing to that many rounds. If any has experience with it in the 15-22 I'd love to here it.

Anyway, loving this rifle so far. My only stress point is that the shop I purchased it from still has quite a few M&P 15 Sports at $550. It's REALLY tempting to pick one up at that price but I think the wife might shoot me with it. I may do it anyway as if it shoots half as well as the 15-22 I'd be a really happy camper. (Besides, a Dad NEEDS two AR style guns when he takes the kids along right)? :D

Hi I've noticed that my 15-22 will eat just about anything I put through it. However, before I commited to a large stock of any one brand, I would try a box of 50. As discussed in previous posts, some 15-22 are more picky than others. Anyways, welcome to the club and enjoy that rifle!

I had trouble with the golden bullets 5 or so years ago. I avoided them since. I ended up with a bucket o bullets in a trade this spring. Have shot a little over half of them with only 3 duds so far. Most were shot in the 15-22 and the remainder fired from a ruger mk3. I would buy more if available.

I've had my 15-22 for a couple years now and it always goes to the range with me. I try to set it up as similarly as possible to my AR-15 and it really allows me to get that feel without the cost of .223/5.56. Mine loves CCI SV. Not one issue with it. I'll also shoot federal auto match but I'll have maybe 1 or 2 FTE per 100 rounds which I can live with.

...still has quite a few M&P 15 Sports at $550...

Same thing here. I can't believe they are so cheap! And that would be the perfect big brother for the 15-22...I'm having the same battle in my head too.:D

And once we get closer to election time, the prices will rise again. So, we have to decide in the next few weeks, lol. Kinda serious though.

I normally buy the Winchester bricks, and they always ran well through my 1st gen 15-22. The only problem is that I noticed some of the lead projectiles weren't "seated" or "pressed" into the brass very tightly causing the round to buckle during auto load. This, however wasn't a problem so much with my M&P as long as the 1st round in the mag was angled up slightly, but was a major issue with my son's .22lr bolt action.

Absolutely. Get the Sport or the Sport II.

Honestly, I'm really thinking about this. I'm seriously enjoying the 15-22 for the short time I've owned it and am very happy with the purchase. However,I can't get wanting the Sport II out of my head!

Does it seem ridiculous to anyone to own both? If you do, do you shoot both regularly? Most of my range time in the past has been handgun time as well as rifles for hunting in the past. The problem is, these AR style rifles are just way too much fun to shoot and yeah, even clean and maintain.

I see shooting the 15-22 a lot more due to the very low ammo cost but just don't know if I can pass up the Sport II now at $550 or so while they last!

I hate this...... :D

It's not ridiculous at all to own both. I own a 10/22 which is fun as heck to shoot, but I also own two AR-15s.

Last follow up in here I swear!!!!

After much thought, contemplation, and discussion with myself, I went out and picked up the Sport II for $550 at a local shop. :D While I haven't had a chance to get to the range with it yet, I can already tell I'm going to be very happy with it.

Broke it down and cleaned it today in hopes of having some time to get out next week. Really looking forward to having both now. Will give me even more excuse to spend more time at the range and get to be able to rotate between the 15-22, the 15, a few hunting rifles, and a number of hand guns.

The wife was wondering why I need yet another rifle, not in a bad way, but still. I got a good chuckle out of her when I said it cost me far less than a set of golf clubs or a country club membership, LOL. (The only golfing I do involves windmills and clown faces).

A matched pair . . . .

You did good . . . .

Riduculus to own both?
I have M&P 22 MOE, an M&P Sport II and a POF Puritan plus a Ruger 10/22 International (Mannlicher) and I don't feel the least bit ridiculous. Expensive to feed and time to shoot is the only draw back I can think of.

2 Points... well 3
Congrats on the 15-22.. funest toy I have...

I also purchased a S&W Ar15 Sport after I got the 15-22.... then started the addiction of re-loading...lol so GET the Sport II

Now I have shot LOTS of the Golden Bullets... think I currently have 4 of those tubes... Mine shoots anything, even with a slidfire on it.. They said the newer Golden Bullets are better than the ones from a few years back.... so FYI

Enjoy your gun.. and get MORE

I love my 15-22! No issues what so ever with ammo besides shooting a lot of it! Its a keeper for sure! Shoot it, accessorize it, have fun with it!
