Ammo in J frame?

My 36-0 is generally my preferred EDC. It doesn't need anything fancy, so I feed it 158 gr. LRN over 3.6 grs. of Red Dot. It seems to like that round well enough, and it's comfortable for me too.

When I go to the desert in moderate weather, I fill it with homemade snake rounds. 158 grains of #6 shot over an equivalent dose of Red Dot. Testing that round on heavy cardboard pie plates shows it to be plenty effective for all snakes, and also two wheeled varmints.

Hopefully I'll never need to make Quigley shots to defend myself.

For my short barrel J-Frames, I carry Buffalo Bore 150 grain hard cast wadcutters.

Practice: 148 grain Wadcutters or 158 grain RN or SWC.

Defense: I no longer use a revolver for defense, but I stay up on it. I would use FBI Loads (158 grain LHP +P) or Speer GD Short Barrel.

Both rounds run over 1000 fps from a 2"...have practice loads that do about the same...

If I am carrying one of my .22 LR J frames, it is loaded with any LR ammo I have handy.
I firmly believe bullet type is the least important of all factors in a SD gun as long as it functions reliably.

Nobody wants to be shot with anything.

This is what I carry in my 340M&P. Although i handload a lot of 135 grain Gold Dot SB for .38+P and .357's. But like everyone says you dont want to use Handloads in a Defensive situation.
