For those who carry or shoot their J frame. What ammo do y’all run

In my M49, I use the new 135 Gold Dot in the Summer for carry and
switch over to the 158 FBI load in the winter time.

The lady's of the family like the newer 130gr HST by Federal, with the lighter recoil
that works out of a 2" barrel for SD work.

As for practice ammo, in todays times, what ever is the cheapest and available.

We carry everyone of the pictured below...

Favorite load(s)... 150gr Underwood's (standard pressure) HCWC's for Woods and almost equally for the "skreets"... Interchangeably with 158gr "Buffalo Bore's" (standard pressure) SCHP's. All mentioned work well when aimed at the pelvis and 2-3 are dumped off at a time. NY reload is also preferable and loved...

I use regular old 148 gr. target 38's or my hand loaded 158 gr lead swc ammo.

These are easy to shoot very accurately with the ability to quickly fire follow up shots accurately.

I've never found that expanding commercial 38 ammo does much expanding on living beasts. I'm unimpressed by performance in ballistic gel, bottles of water, or wet paper because these mediums produce expansion that isn't present when used on live game.

Same for me with my .38's when I used to practice with them before components got scarce and ridiculously priced. I am not out of components, but are saving them for future bad times.
Anyway, what little shooting I do nowadays is with a couple of .22 LR models that I carry one of the other of in a pocket holster.
Sometimes I practice with one of my percussion revolvers.

For the .38s, both steel and aluminum frames: W-W 158gr +P LHP. I have new issue from the 80s(!) and old stock from the 70s. For the .357s, 110gr JHP, R-P or W-W, these in the Model 60 and M&P 340 with its steel cylinder. For the 340PDs, these ride the bench until I can find, say, 100 rounds of R-P Golden Saber .357 which I've read is a medium velocity load. Working in a load in these finicky PDs takes more than just a 25-round box.

Practice: CCI Blazer .357 JHP. This load WILL incur bullet pull for the 5th round in the cylinder in the 340s, both flavors.

The 158swc hardcast is the workhorse in the 38 special,if its not broke do not fix it,the wheel turns to put bad guys in the ground

In my M36 it's 4 each Speer Gold Dot's, with 1 each Underwood Hard Cast in the first up chamber. Same as my Speed Strips.

My EDC is a 649-2 and I shoot whatever I can find the cheapest. These are usually the 158 or 130 grainers. I never felt the need for +P since this is a close range proposition and bullet placement trumps anything else.
