I had my GSG 1911-22 and 15-22 at the range today. The 1911-22 began to have problems fully chambering rounds. It had approximately 400 rounds of M-22 through it since the last cleaning, so crud buildup should not have been an issue. Upon cleaning the gun later, I found a large buildup of fouling just ahead of the chamber in the bore. It was a mound of buildup at the six o'clock position. It was very hard and took about 20 minutes of scrubbing to remove. Long chunks of what looked like leading came out of the bore.

My 15-22 has been shooting M-22 exclusively since the last cleaning, about 700 rounds ago. I pulled that for a cleaning as well and found the same type of buildup. It was about half an inch in front of the chamber and quite noticeable when looking from either end of the barrel. This rifle has gone thousands of rounds of Fed bulk before with no cleaning and without similar buildup, so it seems to be unique to M-22. I would have disregarded it if it hadn't been an issue in two separate firearms. Again, this is very hard fouling, similar to leading, that caused chambering issues in the 1911-22 and could potentially contribute to an OOB in the 15-22 if it reached the chamber.

Anyone experienced similar fouling using M-22? I need to determine if this is a characteristic of this ammo before I buy more.

i have put 1500 rounds of M22 through my 15-22 without any noticable difference when cleaning...I clean my gun immediately after i return from the range everytime...

Maybe a bad lot of ammo? Only thing that comes to mind is the darker copper they coat the bullets with being the culprit...

How many rounds do you usually shoot per range session? I think this is the type of thing that builds up over time and over several hundred rounds.

I think it does have something to do with the bullets, either the coating or maybe an exposed lead base. The long strips of fouling that came out looked just like leading I might pull out of a revolver.

i havent shot less than 500 per range visit...and so far i have noticed no adverse effects...will pay closer attention next trip out- have a new Bushnell T-Dot showing up tommorrow so i will need to hit up the range to sight in

I have gone through 1500 rounds of the M-22 without cleaning for a similar purpose to see what type of difference it had from the CCI mini mags I was using, I have not noticed this type of buildup, but I have noticed the dirt that is left behind is darker than it was with other loads. I suspected the darker bullet, but when I go through another few hundred rounds I will double check to see if I am experiencing the same thing.

i noticed the darker powder residue myself, but it's also finer and easier to remove. no fouling here, and i've done about 2k rounds of this stuff.

After all your carping about cheap knock-off optics... you're buying a dime store Korean made ACOG-look-a-like.

Here's a link to a bunch of glowing reviews.... Heck, one guy said he returned three defective units and just gave up... he's move up in quality and trying a 'Barfska'! I know you'll just love reading that one. :D Crooked reticles, triple image reticles, reticles flickering, poor scope and battery housing, casting defects, won't turn on, reticles turns off if bumped, won't hold zero.... on and on and on.

ps. Hope you get a good one. If not, try a NcStar. ;)

the scope isnt for MY rifle...i am mounting it to a friends 15-22...i should have specified that

And this is the 3rd Bushnell this guy has bought and has had zero issues with them

Also--your reviews on Amazon ( i wont even go into mky proclivities with that website) are over a year old and the reviews i read recently have had a higher positive than NCStars...

in the end its a buddy's rifle and i have more time than he does to bore-sight it and set it up
believe me if it ends up being as bad as the Barska i got i wont hesitate to give it the put-down it deserves ( as well as him for his choice)

This is your buddy's rifle and optic that you have been talking about all this time?

i am currently looking for something different as well--as i have posted in another thread I am leaning towards a 1x32 Bushnell Trophy Red Dot with a Sight Mark 3x magnifier on a swing away mount--as with anything i am making a compromise between ease of use, weight, and magnification...

The Bushnell would be for close range ( which is where i do a fair amount of shooting) and the 3x would allow me to get a better sight picture at a medium distance...i rarely shoot past 75 yards but a Red Dot just doesnt do it for me that far out without magnification--and i will only be in about $219 or so...still half of an EOTech and about 1/3 of a Trijicon

This also means my current Sight Mark Reflex sight will get relocated to my Ruger Mark III :D

I noticed the darker fouling as well. When I pushed all that out with a cleaning patch, that's when the mound of hard fouling became apparent to me.

thats right...i have been doing a little research to replace his reflex sight ( which he is trading me for getting it all together for him) since he is very busy this time of year...

It was easier to post referencing myself than to explain that...which is why i have mentioned it in multiple threads as well to get different levels of feedback--sorry for the confusion!!
