Found 547

I have a 547 in 4" square butt and it is very accurate. I put a set of S&W target grips on it. I was able to avoid having to reload another caliber when I bought this gun instead of a K frame 38/357. Ammo is very affordable. HKS used to make a #547 speedloader and you can still find some at gunshows or local gunshops.
 
Great buy. The challenge is finding the speedloaders. I was able to find two still in the blister pack for $5@. I needed something else to "hunt"for. Good luck. it is truly a design marvel and works like a charm.

Safariland also made Comp II 9mm speed loaders for the Model 547. They are the style that release the cartridges with only a push into the cylinder rather than the HKS "twist the knob" motion. I have 2 that I bought on "fleaBay" many years ago. I enjoy shooting my 547, and it is a real converstaion starter because lots of people have never heard of a 9mm revolver withou moon clips.
 
I checked with HKS recently and they no longer make the 547 speedloader. Best place to find them is your LGS, especially one that has been in business for awhile.
 
DW, nice pair of grips....Are they mother-of-pearl, ivory, or some polymer?

Got a question for anyone. I need to get the 1/8" front sight blade and pin for 547. S&W no help. I would think that one of the other S&W revolvers would be using a sight blade that would work for the 547. Any suggestions?

Just purchased this 547 I think I paid too much I traded a like new Commander for it but it is also in like new condition and I really wanted it you don't see many in new condition.

I don't know I would have traded a Commander but I do admit the 547 is a one of a kind engineering feat and is a neat 9mm. With the varied type of ammo available and the the 3" barrel it is a versatile gun. They only made 10,200+ of the 547. You can find a commander at any gun show. Yea, I probably would have traded a commander too. Enjoy your treasure.

MOP. They came off of an M&P I put the correct stocks on. The gun has a nice pair of stags on it right now and the wood that came with it was put aside. :)

RARE S&W 9mm Model 547 NICKEL Bear Butt

Just listed today over on GB. Really sweet lookin revolver. This one will end up on the high end.
 
Looks good, but is not original finish. I have one that was chromed and it sure looks good.
 
I saw a 3" model that looked 99% with original grips, box and papers at a show last weekend marked $1200. When I spoke to the seller he told me "that's a bargain, it should be $1400 - 1500.
 
I am very glad to see some interest coming back on the 547. I tried a couple of times to get a thread going without much luck. I keep hoping that S&W may re-think the 547 as I think it is a clever design and a great cartridge, the bridger of gaps between the .38 Spl and .357. I purchased a 4" 547 a couple years ago and it's a favorite of mine. I think introducing more revolvers in auto cartridges is a good scheme for sales too. I've got a vintage Model 1917, and love it. I hope I can pick up a 3" 547 one of these days, but I opted for that 4" as they are a bit more rare; it has a pinned barrel too, which I think may be even more unusual since some seem to take a lot of stock on that (doesn't mean so much to me). I think if S&W made a 547 with or without the oringinal system or with moon clips (or better yet, convertible), they'd be surprised at sales.

I have been a proponent of S&W re-introducing the 547 since it was discontinued and have written them several times. Those with the 3" must be hanging on to them as I seldom see one for sale.

Would you mind elaborating on what you mean by a convertible cylinder? Would a 547 without the extractors be a 547?

I am a great fan of the 547 system the way it is. However, many seem to really prefer the moon clip system, especially for auto rounds in revolvers. I was thinking that if S&W would introduce a "new model" 547 with as an example, a moon clip option, or perhaps even a second cylinder option so that you could switch them out (like the Ruger Blackhawk), it would be marketable and maybe even a big seller. I think they would at least be able to compete with the new Model 22/1917s (to include the Thunder ranch models), both of which I really like. Maybe even include a stainless model as well, since that is also very popular now. The next logical step would be .40 S&W and .357 SIG capable K or L frames. For myself, if they just reintroduced the 547 the way it was, I'd be happy, and I wouldn't even make a sound if they included the IL. I know if S&W reintroduced the 547 in any of those configuration or calibers, I'd be first in line!

S&W did make a 547M. I do not recall details of the revolver, but there was a post about it a few months back. Might have to do a search and re-read the post.

A stainless 547 would be fine as well. If you are first in line for a new 547, I will be right behind you.

I found the Thread/posts you referenced; you were the last poster on it (the thread is "dual cylinder 547). It looks like the 547-M is exactly what I'm looking for! It doesn't appear S&W actually produced it though; it seems it was a concept model. The thread contains some great information about some people that do make conversion cylinders so now it's got me thinking about having one made for my 619 and making a safe-queen out of my 547. Still wish S&W would make either one, 547 or 547-M or maybe a "647(M)" (the stainless model)? One can only hope for such things....
 
When I stumbled across my 3 inch 547 it was a great day. I first thought it was a model 13 which I had been looking for. Had a 13 many years ago and traded it for something I cannot remember now. A 547 with a 357 cylinder would be a near perfect combination and I also would not hesitate to grab one in a heartbeat.
 
I think I'd like my version of a 647 much better. How about this: 64-7. I 've just had an idea, wondering what Tekarra might think. On that thread was mentioned an outfit called TK custom. I was kind of thinking about taking a Model 64 and converting the cylinder to 9mm. Sadly, it would only be about halfway to a 547, but would sort of fit the bill. In fact, I'm liking this idea more and more....what do you think Tek? Think the model 64 would be up to 9mm +P? Seems like if the 547 could, the 64 could too.
 
I picked up my first 4" 547 at the last OGCA meeting. New in the
box with everything but the tool kit and I just put one togeather so
it's now a complete box. Paid $900 for her and I thought I got
a good deal. Thanks again Roger........
